Farhad Noori, who competed in Men’s Physique division, confessed to vicious attack.
Farhad Noori, an Afghan bodybuilder who has competed at the NPC level, admitted to driving a vehicle into a Munich crowd, injuring 36 people.
According the multiple reports, Noori was arrested after driving a mini-cooper into a crowd of 1,500 people in what has been described as an “Islamic extremist attack” by German law enforcement. After being detained, Noori began praying and told the cops “Allahu Akbar,” which translates to “God is most great.”
Prosecutor Gabriele Tilmann said the interrogation of Noori lasted more than two hours and that he gave what was described as “religious motivation” for the attack. As of now, it is believed that Noori acted alone and was not connected to any terrorist organization.
German chancellor Olaf Scholz has made calls for Noori to be deported following the attack:
“This perpetrator cannot hope for any leniency. He must be punished and he must leave the country. If it was an attack, we must take consistent action against possible perpetrators with all means of justice.”
The attack took place just one mile away from the site of a conference featuring many world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The conference was held in Munich.
