Does Alcohol Affect Muscle Growth?

Protein Synthesis

Generation Iron Beer drinking

Research shows that alcohol can interfere with protein synthesis, a key to establishing new muscle growth. Alcohol consumption can also have negative affects on the body’s natural production of human growth hormone which would undoubtedly prevent positive gains. If you drink a considerable amount after working out, expect reduction in protein synthesis which will temporarily stunt your muscle growth.

Just like anything else a few drinks in moderation won’t be drastically debilitating. One drink isn’t going to drastically affect your growth goals, but too much of a bad thing will obviously make things much worse. If you ever hope of getting up on a posing stage it’s best to curb your behavior and be realistic about any bad habits you may have. If you want your muscles to reap the benefits of a hard workout, you’ll do best to cut the drinking down to a minimum. Alcohol may be great for having a good time, but drinking irresponsibly has its consequences.
