Andy Haman reunites with the man who got him back into bodybuilding in this archival video from 2015.
The bodybuilding world was shocked and mourned the death of Andy Haman – who passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2021. Andy was a pro bodybuilding, actor, and beloved personality in the world of fitness and bodybuilding. The news was first announced by his son on Facebook.

Andy Haman was not only known for his physique but also his optimistic and positive personality. In a sport that can often be isolating during the most extreme moments of competition prep – Andy brought togetherness and camaraderie into the sport.
In tribute of his passing, we have decided to re-release one of the Incredible Andy interviews from our GI Vault archives. In this clip, Andy reunites with the man who helped bring Andy back into bodybuilding. His name was Steve Downs.
After a brief stint of competitive bodybuilding, Andy stepped away from the sport to persue teaching. Years later, Andy switched gears, retired from teaching, and returned to pro bodybuilding.
Steve Downs was the man who first gave Andy Haman a big opportunity and exposure after returning to the sport. He was given a magazine cover feature in Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness – which Steve Downs was involved with at the time. In the interview clip above, Andy directly connects this opportunity to having gave him a career in bodybuilding once again.
Pro bodybuilding is a very competitive space in a niche industry. It is not only hard to find victory on the stage but also to solidify a career as a full time bodybuilder. The exposure that Andy Haman received through Steve Downs was enough to kick start his bodybuilding career once again. Without Steve, Andy might not have been as well known or remembered within the bodybuilding space as he is today.
The clip is a wonderful insight into not only Andy Haman’s history but a brief look into his personality. The very reason he was so beloved across the bodybuilding community. The entire team at Generation Iron will sorely miss Andy Haman and give condolences to his friends and family during this challenging time.
