“If you need to get frustrated with nutrition advice, just look at the confusion surrounding eggs.”
In a previous edition, Schwarzenegger shared that eggs can help reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s. This made many bring up cholesterol and that was also discussed at length. Now, Arnold wanted to dive into research on if whole eggs cause cardiovascular disease like many might believe.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Talks Eggs Impact On The Heart
Schwarzenegger shared his latest research and it showed that eggs do not cause disease and could have many benefits.
“There’s a new concern that eggs cause heart disease. The truth? Research suggests that for healthy people, whole eggs do not threaten the heart and could even help protect against disease.”
Arnold continued to explain that there was a confusion regarding trimethylamine N-oxide, which is linked to heart disease. Choline supplements can cause rising fasting TMAO levels in some. Egg yolks are high in choline and this is where the belief came from that eggs will cause cardiovascular disease.
Schwarzenegger referenced research that people who ate multiple eggs per day did not experience high TMAO levels.
“In the study, people who ate four eggs per day, despite their high choline content, did not experience a spike in TMAO levels. In other words, supplement choline was not the same as dietary choline from foods, such as eggs.”
Eggs bring many benefits such as amino acids. They are a “nutrient-dense” food that provides many vitamins. Arnold ended by urging those to get different testing done if you are nervous about different risks of heart disease.
“If you’re worried about cardiovascular risk, get your blood tested, and you can ee if there are any reasons (such as elevated LDL cholesterol) why you might need to cut back or adjust your diet.”
