How the Hollywood Star is Getting Back Into Adventurer Shape

Brendan Fraser’s remarkable Hollywood comeback has been one of the most inspiring stories in entertainment. After winning an Academy Award for his performance in The Whale where he portrayed a morbidly obese English teacher, and returning to major blockbuster projects, it has been confirmed that The Mummy 4 is happening. While no official training program has been released, there have been some clips of him preparing to reprise his iconic role as Rick O’Connell.

Nearly two decades after his last adventure as Rick O’Connell, Brendan Fraser is preparing to return to the role that made him one of Hollywood’s most beloved action stars. The actor recently confirmed that he is getting back into shape for The Mummy 4, marking his first major action film in years.

Fraser, now 57, first became an action icon through the original Mummy trilogy, which combined blockbuster adventure, supernatural thrills, and demanding physical performances. While audiences have watched him earn critical acclaim in dramatic roles in recent years, including his Oscar-winning performance in The Whale, his upcoming return to the Mummy franchise will require a very different kind of preparation.

Our team at Generation Iron is going to break it down.

Brendan Fraser Confirms Mummy 4 Return

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fraser teased his return to the franchise and revealed that he has begun the process of preparing for the physically demanding role.

“The Mummy 4” is currently slated for release on October 15, 2027, and will reunite Fraser with Rachel Weisz, who returns as Evelyn O’Connell after appearing in the first two films. Also returning is John Hannah, who played Evelyn’s brother Jonathan and provided much of the franchise’s comic relief.

The announcement has generated significant excitement among fans who have waited nearly 20 years to see Fraser return as the wisecracking adventurer.

“I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Then other Mummy movies got made,” Fraser said when discussing the possibility of returning. “But listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations.”

While Fraser avoided revealing too many details about the film, he did admit that preparing for the role has become a major focus.

“Please wish me luck,” he joked. “I’m doing my best to get this 57-year-old gear in shape.”

Why Training for The Mummy 4 Is Different

When Fraser starred in the original The Mummy in 1999, he was in his early thirties and entering the peak years of his action career. The role demanded sprinting through deserts, elaborate fight scenes, climbing ancient ruins, horseback riding, and numerous practical stunts.

Today, the challenge is different.

Fraser has spoken openly over the years about the physical toll that action filmmaking took on his body. The extensive stunt work from films like The Mummy franchise contributed to multiple injuries and surgeries throughout his career.

As a result, his current training approach is likely focused not only on rebuilding strength and conditioning but also on protecting his joints and maintaining mobility.

For actors returning to action roles later in life, the emphasis often shifts from maximizing muscle size to improving functional fitness, endurance, and recovery.

What Brendan Fraser’s Workout Routine May Look Like

Although Fraser has not publicly shared the specifics of his training program, most Hollywood action-star transformations rely on a combination of strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, mobility work, and recovery.

Full-Body Strength Training

To prepare for demanding action sequences, Fraser would likely focus on compound exercises that build total-body strength.

Key movements may include:

  • Squats
  • Deadlifts
  • Dumbbell presses
  • Pull-ups
  • Rows
  • Farmer’s carries

These exercises help develop practical strength while improving overall athletic performance.

Cardiovascular Conditioning

Rick O’Connell wasn’t a superhero covered in armor. He was an adventurer who spent much of his time running from danger. For that reason, conditioning is expected to play a major role in Fraser’s preparation.

Potential conditioning methods include:

  • Interval running
  • Stationary bike sprints
  • Rowing workouts
  • Circuit training
  • Hiking

Improving endurance will be essential for handling long filming days and action-heavy scenes.

Mobility and Joint Health

One of the most important aspects of training at 57 is maintaining healthy movement patterns.

Many veteran actors incorporate:

  • Dynamic stretching
  • Yoga
  • Foam rolling
  • Resistance band exercises
  • Physical therapy

These recovery-focused methods help reduce injury risk while improving performance.

Core Strength

Action films require significant core stability, especially when performing fight choreography and stunt work.

Exercises such as:

  • Planks
  • Hanging leg raises
  • Cable rotations
  • Ab wheel rollouts

can help build the stability necessary for action scenes.

Nutrition for an Action-Movie Comeback

Training is only one piece of the equation. To successfully prepare for The Mummy 4, Fraser will likely need a nutrition plan centered on muscle retention, recovery, and energy production.

Most action-film nutrition programs emphasize:

  • High-quality protein sources
  • Complex carbohydrates
  • Healthy fats
  • Adequate hydration

Foods like chicken, fish, eggs, rice, potatoes, fruits, and vegetables are staples in many Hollywood transformation diets.

At 57, recovery becomes increasingly important, making proper nutrition even more critical than it was during Fraser’s earlier action-film years.

The Return of Rick O’Connell

The original Mummy trilogy remains one of the most popular adventure franchises of its era. While 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor failed to match the critical success of its predecessors, fans have continued to campaign for Fraser’s return.

Now, after winning an Academy Award, appearing in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and starring in The Rental Family, Fraser is preparing to step back into the role that defined a generation of action movies.

His return represents more than another sequel. It is the comeback of one of Hollywood’s most recognizable adventure heroes.

With production moving forward and Fraser already focused on getting back into action-star shape, fans may finally get the Rick O’Connell reunion they have been waiting nearly two decades to see. If Fraser’s enthusiasm is any indication, he’s ready to saddle up once again and head back into the world of ancient curses, hidden tombs, and blockbuster adventure.
