The Strongman legend took on one of the strongest animals in the world.
Brian Shaw is a Strongman legend who has taken on many feats of strength over the years. Recently, he took on an entirely different challenge when MrBeast threw out the idea of Shaw going into a tug-of-war against a lion.
Shaw was flown down to South Africa to attempt this challenge. MrBeast and his production team set up a custom cage that allowed Shaw to go up against a lion in a safe way.

“The meat is suspended up and I think the lion is pretty excited. I think the lion is also pretty angry so I need to flip my switch and get into my mode.”
Shaw has ventured into many avenues of fitness and strength sports. He is a four-time World’s Strongest Man champion. He is also the only man to win the WSM and Arnold Strongman Classic in the same calendar year. After retiring from Strongman, Shaw has taken on arm wrestling and MMA in different capacities. He has remained extremely strong and showed it off here.

Brian Shaw Takes on Lion in Tug-of-War
Shaw began his series of warmups about 10-12 minutes out of the battle. One side of the rope was tied to a piece of meat so the lion could find it and latch on. Once this happened, the tug would begin.
“I feel like we are in a good spot getting in there. We’re going to trim the rope a little bit just so I can get to a finishing position. Once the lion gets in there, it’s go time. I feel like that will be a little bit of an adrenaline rush.”
Brian Shaw entered the cage, along with MrBeast and his crew, before the lion was brought in.
“I think I gotta be staggered and I think, if I can, have to launch backwards.”
After a few minutes of back-and-forth, including the lion taking his rope to the side, Shaw was able to get enough behind his pull to bring the red flag over to his side and claim victory.
“I want to say thanks to everybody on the MrBeast team for their hospitality, for setting it up, for doing all the hard work to make it happen. And for involving me in it, it was something pretty, pretty cool.”
