Courage Opara has reportedly withdrawn from the 2026 212 Olympia just days before taking the stage in Las Vegas.
The 212 Olympia lineup has suffered a major last-minute shakeup. Courage Opara, who entered this year’s contest as one of the division’s top contenders, is reportedly out of the 2026 Olympia after dealing with rhabdomyolysis during his preparation.
RXMuscle shared the news on Tuesday, Sept. 22, citing Bodybuilders Without Borders. According to the report, Opara suffered a bout with rhabdomyolysis and was unable to recover in time to continue preparing for the Olympia.
At this time, Opara has not publicly detailed the circumstances surrounding the reported health issue.
Courage Opara Was Coming Off Two Straight Victories
Opara’s withdrawal is a significant loss for an already highly competitive 212 Olympia lineup.
The veteran bodybuilder finished fifth at the 2025 212 Olympia behind champion Keone Pearson, Shaun Clarida, Lucas Garcia and Nihat Kaya. That performance established Opara as one of the top athletes in the division heading into 2026.
Opara only strengthened his position this season.
He captured the Men’s 212 title at the 2026 Tampa Pro, defeating Felipe Moraes and Dontravious Ballard. He followed that performance by winning the 2026 Texas Pro, where Marco Ruz finished second and Juan Aleman took third. The IFBB Pro League’s official results confirm Opara’s Tampa victory, while his Texas win gave him two consecutive victories heading toward the Olympia.
That run made Opara an intriguing challenger to three-time defending 212 Olympia champion Keone Pearson.
What Is Rhabdomyolysis?
Rhabdomyolysis is a serious medical condition involving the rapid breakdown of damaged muscle tissue. The breakdown can release substances into the bloodstream that may damage the kidneys and cause other complications.
Because the details surrounding Opara’s reported case have not yet been disclosed, it is unclear when the issue began or how severe it became. His current condition has also not been publicly detailed.
For now, the focus will be on Opara’s recovery.
His absence removes last year’s fifth-place finisher and one of the hottest competitors of the 2026 season from the 212 Olympia lineup just days before the competition begins.
Generation Iron will continue to provide updates on Courage Opara’s condition and the 2026 Olympia as additional information becomes available.
