Doctor Dies After Suddenly Collapsing During Gym Workout, Security Video Captures Tragedy

Dr. Sahin Rahman, an associate professor at Nagaon Medical College and Hospital in Assam, India, has died after suddenly collapsing during a workout at a local gym.

Rahman, 47, was exercising on Aug. 27 when he became unconscious at approximately 7:36 p.m., according to reports. CCTV footage from inside the gym captured the moments surrounding the incident. Rahman was rushed for medical attention but was later declared dead.

Dr. Sahin Rahman Collapses During Gym Workout

Video circulating on social media shows Rahman exercising inside the gym shortly before the medical emergency. His sudden death has reportedly shocked colleagues, students, and members of the local community.

Officials have not announced a cause of death.

Initial reports have prompted speculation that Rahman may have suffered a cardiac event, and some outlets have gone as far as describing the incident as a heart attack. However, there has been no official determination establishing that Rahman suffered a heart attack, cardiac arrest, or any other specific medical condition.

Further information surrounding his death is expected as authorities and medical officials continue to examine the circumstances.

Can Intense Exercise Trigger a Cardiac Event?

Cases involving sudden medical emergencies inside gyms frequently raise questions about the potential cardiovascular risks associated with intense exercise. However, an incident occurring during a workout does not necessarily mean that exercise itself was responsible.

In fact, regular exercise is overwhelmingly associated with better cardiovascular health and a reduced risk of heart disease. The CDC states that getting at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week can lower the risk of heart disease and stroke, while regular exercise can also improve blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

There are circumstances where strenuous exercise can temporarily increase cardiovascular risk, particularly among susceptible individuals.

The American Heart Association has noted that unaccustomed vigorous physical activity can acutely increase the risk of sudden cardiac death or heart attack, particularly in people who are inactive, unfit, or have underlying vulnerabilities. At the same time, the organization stresses that the cardiovascular benefits of regular physical activity far outweigh its risks for most people.

Doctors warn gymgoers to not ignore symptoms that occur during strenuous exercise, such as chest discomfort, unusual shortness of breath, dizziness, or extreme weakness.

In Rahman’s case, however, there is currently no publicly confirmed evidence that an underlying heart condition, exercise intensity, or any other particular factor contributed to his death.

For now, the exact cause of Rahman’s sudden collapse and death remains unknown.
