6-Time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates believes cheat meals bring many benefits to bodybuilders.
Dorian Yates put together a legendary bodybuilding career thanks to his overall workload and dedication in the gym. Yates was also strict within his diet plan and this included a weekly cheat meal that he believes was very important. Recently, he spoke about the “mental and physical” benefits of cheat meals.

“I think cheat meals are good. You know, like physically and mentally as well, keeping you on track.”
From 1992-1997, Yates did not lose a competition and racked up six-consecutive Olympia titles. Following his final victory on the biggest stage, Yates retired from bodybuilding after suffering different injuries. In retirement, Yates has maintained a shredded physique while sharing his wisdom in the gym.
Yates was as good as there was on stage and continues to speak on methods that helped him win six Olympia titles.
Dorian Yates Talks Important Of Cheat Meals
Dorian Yates maintained a steady diet that helped sculpt his legendary physique. Part of his routine was a weekly cheat meal that helped him improve mentally as well as physically.
“Nothing wrong with having a cheat meal once or twice a week.”
“You got something to look forward to. I used to have a cheat meal once a week. Even when I was getting ready for Mr. Olympia, up until three weeks out. I used to go out on Saturday and have one meal, what I wanted, nothing wrong with that.”

Yates continued to speak on the importance of discipline but there are also times where bodybuilders must enjoy themselves, especially with family or friends. There is a chance for balance within the sport.
“It’s great to be disciplined but it’s not necessary to, let’s say you have a birthday or Christmas where you go with the whole family, there’s no need to sit there with your can of dry tuna and everybody else is enjoying the food and the celebrations and everything like that. So, keep a bit of balance there.”
