Dorian Yates Dislocates Shoulder in Bike Riding Accident

Dorian Yates suffers painful shoulder dislocation.

Being a legend in any sport comes with a long history. For many who look to get to the top of their chosen profession are bound to face adversity at one point or another. For the legendary Mass Monster Dorian Yates, injuries have been the bane of his existence.

The numerous injuries he suffered during training for the Olympia eventually saw him retire from the sport. Now it appears that the six-time Mr. Olympia is facing another injury battle, this one unrelated to bodybuilding.

Strength Wars Movie

While on a peaceful bike ride with his wife Gal Yates, Dorian suffered a painful shoulder dislocation. The former Olympia kingpin had this to say about the incident:

On a lovely sunny Sunday morning I thought it was going to be a peaceful bike ride along the beach path until I hit an oil patch. I lost the bike from underneath me causing me to crash with my shoulder on the floor. The result was a very painful dislocation of my right shoulder.

Thanks to the passers by, specially a lady called Maria for helping me get to the road where my wife gal yates drove me to the hospital. Actually my wife gal yates is the one typing because I can’t use my right hand ?

I have to keep my shoulder immobilized for 3 weeks minimum, followed by a lengthy period of rehab and recovery which means no training, again ? which’s going to be tough.

Thrombosis earlier in the year, and now this challenge. 2020, what a year.

Many of his prior experiences dealing with injury and depression have altered his entire lifestyle. Today, Dorian Yates maintains a smaller physique, focuses on meditation, and maintains a healthy lifestyle focused on longevity.

His life story portrayed in the movie ‘Dorian Yates The Original Mass Monster’ chronicled the six-time Mr. Olympia champion overcoming depression, a mental collapse and a trip to Costa Rica for a spiritual Ayahuasca journey. Dorian Yates ushered in a new era of bodybuilding by showcasing an unprecedented amount of mass during his storied career.

Most recently, Yates reflected on his retirement from bodybuilding to Generation Iron. He considered his injury a blessing in disguise as it forced him to focus on his long term health. Dorian Yates dealt with a major triceps tear and knew his prime years on the bodybuilding stage were behind him. He has dedicated himself to a healthy lifestyle and focuses on training and on his sports nutrition company, DY Nutrition.
