Eddie Hall is the epitome of a a strongman. But the 2017 World’s Strongest Man will soon find himself in a different arena as he prepares for a boxing match against rival Hafthor Bjornsson. That prep requires the strongman to drop some weight. In a recent video, Eddie Hall revealed the weight cutting diet he’s been using to get himself into boxing condition.

Strength Wars Movie

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Eddie Hall broke down what he’s been eating these days. To start he has a protein shake (200 calories, 50g protein) first thing in the morning. He then hops on the treadmill for a mile and a half walk.

“What I like to do every morning, because obviously I’m on there treadmill, staring straight at the tv, it is really good to sort of do my homework,” said Hall.

“I’ll watch fights that make sense to me. I’ll watch fights that have got a southpaw boxer in them, because I’m fighting a southpaw coming up later in the year.”

Eddie Hall touched on what it’s like eating for a fight. Where strongman competitors are used to consuming a great deal of calories, eating for a fight is a different ball game. You want to get the right amount of calories in to ensure you can perform at a high level. At the same time the goal is to to shed fat while maintaining muscle.

He had a breakfast that consisted of a burger cooked in butter and topped with lactose-free cheese. He also had some rice crispies with lactose-free milk. That totaled out to 900 calories with 100g of protein.

“It’s important to get carbs in, not much, but just a little bit of carbs through your session. Of course, the best way to fuel a session is beforehand,” said Hall.

Hall then moves on to have a weight training session. Before that however, he is sure to consume a collection of vitamins and supplements including amino acids, vitamin K, vitamin C, omega-3, and fish oil.

The protein content is very high throughout the day. Halfway through his weight training, Hall consumes a protein shake containing only whey and water just like the morning, 200 calories and 50g protein. When the workout is completed he has lactose-free yogurt which is 130 calories and 255g of protein.

After taking a nap, Hall has one more meal before his boxing training resumes. The meal consists of oat and dairy bars as well as a protein shake which comes out to 1000 calories with 310g of protein. After training, another protein shake as well as oat bars and a banana, 500 calories with 360g protein.

Hall finishes the day with a meal consisting of chicken, potatoes, and vegetables. The calorie count measures out to be 1200 calories and 410g of protein.

“This is the thing about being an athlete, is you have to eat every couple of hours. At least every two hours you need to get some form of protein and carbs in. It’s important,” Hall explained.
