Could there be a future fight between Thor Bjornsson and Martyn Ford?
There are two major fights that have been dominating headlines in recent weeks. One has been completed as Hafthor Bjornsson defeated Eddie Hall by unanimous decision on Saturday night. The other will take pale on April 30 as Martyn Ford and the Iranian Hulk will do battle at the O2 Arena in London.
Could these four opponents end up crossing paths in the future?
Bjornsson spoke on the possibility of taking on Ford once the smoke clears from these two fights. Speaking to IFL TV, ‘The World’s Scariest Man’ believes that he would not have any trouble taking on Bjornsson.
“I’ll tell you what, I’d definitely fucking knock him out. ‘D take Thord 100 percent. In my yes, technically, he’s good. He’s been coached well but I’d take Thor 100 percent. I don’t know if I’d knock him out but I’d win. I’d back myself 100 percent,” Ford said.
Martyn Ford, who is a friend of Eddie Hall, spoke on this following comments from Bjornsson. The Mountain discussed this potential matchup before the fight with Hall occurred. Despite his notion that he was focused on Hall, there was a sense that Hafthor Bjornsson could already be looking to the future.
“I am not going to be thinking about names but someone asked me before if I would fight Martyn Ford. He is a friend of Eddie Hall and as you know, I am focused on Eddie right now. I m definitely open to discuss something versus him if the opportunity were there,” Bjornsson explained.
Bjornsson’s tone changed after hearing the comments from Ford and had a simple response.
“I think I’ll smash him,” Thor Bjornsson said.
Martyn Ford has been training MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu for years now. He has experience in many areas and was quick to critique some of the fighting styles showed on Saturday night.
“Watching it as someone who loves boxing, you can see what the problem was. There were big, big shots shining in which were blowing his energy. He wanted to hit the one shot but it’s not going to work. You’re relying on a lucky shot to get your knockout and you’re not working our man. You’re not throwing combinations. He his was static. His hands were low and Thor’s got a reach advantage,” Ford said.
Hafthor Bjornsson had a significant reach advantage over Eddie Hall. This is similar to Ford over the Iranian Hulk, who is also seven inches shorter. Bjornsson and Ford would have similar metrics if they were to matchup.
Both men stand around 6-feet-9 inches tall. The body type of both Bjornsson and Ford features incredible size and muscle mass. Thor Bjornsson has made the transition from a strongman and has built a shredded physique. This is something Ford has worked on as well.
If there is a fight to look forward to in the future, Hafthor Bjornsson and Martyn Ford would certainly be one of them. It is unknown at this time what plans are but the idea has been tossed around by both fighters and it is in the back of their minds.
