Hugh Jackman showed off an intense set of weighted deficit push-ups, proving he’s still training at a high level at 57.

Hugh Jackman has spent decades building one of Hollywood’s most recognizable superhero physiques, and at 57 years old, the Australian actor is showing no signs of slowing down. In a new Instagram post shared on July 1, Jackman powered through a heavy chain weighted push-ups workout during a brutal upper-body training session.

The clip quickly caught the attention of fans, many of whom immediately wondered whether another Wolverine appearance could be on the horizon. While Jackman didn’t hint at any future film plans, his latest workout once again highlighted the consistency that has helped him maintain elite conditioning throughout his career.

Hugh Jackman Shares Brutal Weighted Push-Up Set

In the video, Jackman performed deficit push-ups while wearing multiple heavy chains across his upper back and shoulders, increasing the resistance while also extending the range of motion. The exercise is a challenging variation of the traditional push-up, placing greater emphasis on the chest, shoulders, and triceps while requiring significant core stability.

Alongside the workout, Jackman shared a simple reminder about the importance of staying consistent with training:

“Best to stay fit. Rather than chase it. I remind myself of this every time Beth wants another set.”

The reference was to longtime trainer Beth Lewis, who has helped guide Jackman’s training for years, particularly during his preparations for physically demanding movie roles.

Fans Immediately Thought of Wolverine

Some of the reactions included:

As expected, many fans filled the comments wondering whether Jackman was preparing for another appearance as Wolverine. The workout impressed his followers who marveled (pun intended) at his ability to train at such a high level in his late 50s.

  • “Planning to Wolverine again? Take it easy.”
  • “Wolverine Adamantium Rage incoming!”
  • “Still getting it at this age.”
  • “Mode Wolverine.”

Whether or not another Wolverine project is in the works, the training footage reminded fans why Jackman has remained synonymous with the character for more than two decades.

The Training That Built a Superhero Physique

Jackman’s transformation into Wolverine has long been praised as one of Hollywood’s most impressive physical makeovers. Over multiple X-Men films, he combined structured resistance training with disciplined nutrition to build the muscular, lean look that defined the iconic Marvel character.

His dedication has also been recognized by those closest to him. During preparations for Deadpool & Wolverine, co-star Ryan Reynolds praised Jackman’s relentless work ethic.

“Hugh Jackman is a beast. He’s clearly obsessed with his own body, so keeping up with someone who’s that diligent is going to be challenging, but yeah it’s been fun.”

While many actors ease off their training between major projects, Jackman has consistently emphasized maintaining fitness year-round instead of scrambling to get back into shape for a role.

Why Weighted Deficit Push-Ups Are So Effective

Jackman’s exercise of choice combines two advanced push-up variations into one movement:

  • Chains add accommodating resistance, forcing the upper body to handle additional load throughout each repetition.
  • Deficit positioning increases the range of motion, allowing for a deeper stretch through the chest and shoulders.
  • Core stabilization is challenged throughout the movement, making it a full-body exercise despite primarily targeting the upper body.
  • Joint-friendly pressing option compared to heavy barbell bench pressing for many experienced lifters.

It’s a demanding movement that requires significant upper-body strength and stability, making it well beyond a standard bodyweight push-up.

Jackman Continues to Prioritize Longevity

Hollywood has no shortage of actors who stay in shape later in life, but Jackman continues to stand out because of the consistency behind his training. Rather than relying on short-term transformations, he has built a reputation for maintaining his physique year after year through disciplined workouts and smart programming.

His latest chain push-up session serves as another reminder that strength and athleticism don’t have to disappear with age. With the right training approach and consistency, Jackman continues to show why he’s remained one of the fitness world’s most respected action stars well into his 50s.
