Bodybuilder Jose Mateus Correia Silva has died at 28 years old, according to local reports

In a tragic turn of events, 28-year-old Brazilian bodybuilder Jose Mateus Correia Silva passed away during a training session with friends in Aguas Claras, a town near the capital city of Brasil. The athlete, known for his dedication to fitness and competitive achievements, reportedly suffered cardiac arrest while training on Friday, November 22, 2024. The news comes from several local reports one week after his passing.

A Heartbreaking Scene at the Gym

The incident unfolded during a rigorous workout session last Friday. Jose Mateus Correia Silva, accompanied by friends, suddenly fell ill during the session. Recognizing the severity of the situation, one of his friends, a firefighter, rushed him to a nearby fire station, where emergency medical efforts began immediately.

Despite over an hour of resuscitation attempts, Jose could not be revived. His untimely passing has sent shockwaves through Brazil’s fitness and bodybuilding communities, where he was a respected figure.

A Life of Dedication and Achievement

Among Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s competitive highlights were a ninth-place finish in the Men’s Physique Class up to 179cm at the 2018 South American Championships and an eleventh-place finish in the Men’s Bodybuilding Class up to 100kg at the prestigious Arnold Classic South America in 2017.

While he was not actively competing at the time of his death, Jose remained deeply involved in the bodybuilding world. He trained aspiring athletes for competitions and operated an online supplement store, cementing his influence in the industry. Beyond his fitness endeavors, Jose held a law degree and had completed a course in nutrition, showcasing his diverse talents and drive for success.

A Family and Community in Mourning

The news of Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s passing has left his family and friends devastated. His brother Tiago took to social media to pay an emotional tribute, posting a heartfelt message alongside a photo of his late sibling. “You were incredible. Thank you for so much. I love you,” he wrote.

Tiago also shared with local media that Jose appeared to be in good health and had no known medical conditions. Reflecting on the loss, he added, “Heaven has gained an angel. Jose was a much-loved man.”

Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s funeral was held on Sunday, drawing hundreds of mourners. Tiago described the service as a “beautiful farewell,” filled with family, friends, and heartfelt emotion. “There were so many people they couldn’t fit inside the chapel,” he shared. The service featured both evangelical and Catholic ceremonies, offering a deeply personal and spiritual tribute to Jose’s life.

Unanswered Questions Surround His Death

The exact cause of Jose’s sudden collapse remains unknown, leaving questions about what led to his fatal heart attack during a routine workout. His death has prompted discussions about the potential risks involved in high-intensity training and the importance of regular medical checkups, even for those who appear to be in peak physical condition.

A Legacy Remembered

Jose Mateus Correia Silva’s passing is a stark reminder of the fragility of life, even for those who seem invincible. His contributions to bodybuilding, both as a competitor and as a mentor, have left an indelible mark on the Brazilian fitness community. Those who knew him remember him as a dedicated athlete, a loving brother, and a passionate professional who lived life with purpose.

As tributes continue to pour in, Jose’s family, friends, and fans are left to cherish the memories of his vibrant life while grappling with the void his loss has created. While his journey was tragically cut short, his impact will continue to inspire those who knew and admired him.
