Mike Israetel Critiques Mark Wahlberg’s Training Routine

Mike Israetel is not impressed by this Mark Wahlberg training program.

Doctor Mike Israetel recently critiqued the workout of actor Mark Wahlberg. An exercise scientist and professor, Israetel is also an accomplished bodybuilder with a wealth of experience and knowledge. The good doctor is using this acquired knowledge to deconstruct the training program of Wahlberg.

An NPC bodybuilder, Mike Israetel has spent a large portion of his life learning how to improve physical strength and aesthetics. So it’s safe to say that the good doctor knows what he’s talking about when he reviews training programs. Having already transformed his own physique, Israetel is a prime example of someone who walks to walk.

The Wahlberg Workout

In a recent YouTube videos, Mike Israetel took on the challenge of critiquing Mark Wahlberg, and his training routine. Israetel came to several conclusions, most of which were not positive.

“You get out what you put in and you have to be disciplined you have to want it and you know put in the time,” said Mark Wahlberg at the beginning of his training video.

Mike Israetel agrees with this statement and mindset. However, he’s not handing out extra points. He acknowledges this is the basic understanding of what it takes to improve your health and fitness.

The video quickly shifts to Mark Wahlberg doing what appears to be a cable chest exercise with some very fast and explosive movement. Mike Israetel is having none of it.

“what the f**k is Marky Mark doing in there,” says Israetel. “Ultrafast focused on the concentric reps. these are not good reps folks. you want to go down slower maybe even pause at the bottom and come up quickly. D plus.”

The Problem: The Trainer

Fast forward to another portion of the training video and Mike Israetel starts to lose it. Not on Mark Wahlberg, no. Israetel’s upset is focused on Wahlberg’s trainer. Wahlberg walks around with a 70-pound kettlebell, likely trying to replicate the farmer’s carry, while his trainer just looks on without giving much instruction. Israetel believes Wahlberg’s trainer is doing him a massive disservice.

”This is the laziest training I’ve ever seen, not from Mark’s perspective, he’s working hard,” said Israetel. “the coach is just standing around watching him walk around and do nonsense. hey coach get in there and Coach a real Movement Like a pull-up or a row or a bench press or a curl or a squat, actually get your client the best most efficient results. stop just watching them walk around on pointless patterns, pointlessly, for no point at all!

“This comes very close to being just random ways to do work. like you ran out of good ideas as a trainer and you’re just like ‘hey like just uh just walk around or move around just do this it’ll be great’ and Mark’s like sweating and tired he’s like, ‘oh this must be great.’ He’s being ripped off.”

The Verdict

So it seems Mike Israetel isn’t so much critiquing Mark Wahlberg himself. Rather Israetel is criticizes Wahlberg’s trainer. He believes the actor should be put through exercises that will increase strength markers as well as improve his physique.
