Mike Sommerfeld is working out twice a day on a low-carb diet to prepare for his next outing.
Mike Sommerfeld is preparing to take the stage at the 2025 Arnold Classic as a standout in the Classic Physique division. He has been working hard to bring his best package to the stage in Columbus and that includes taking on two-a-day workouts on a low-carb diet plan.
“We’re going to start with back and chest in the morning and we’re going to finish it with shoulders and arms in the evening.”
Sommerfeld finished as the runner-up to Chris Bumstead during the 2024 Olympia. With Bumstead announcing his retirement, this puts Sommerfeld in line to compete for the title right away in 2025 and it begins with the Arnold.

Sommerfeld competed at the amateur level in 2014 and burst onto the scene in the IFBB in 2019. That year, he competed at the Romania Pro. Following his debut, Sommerfeld’s progress was swift and impressive. He soon entered a number of professional competitions, steadily improving his rankings. His hard work paid off with wins at events such as the Xtreme Bodybuilding & Fitness Pro and the Poland Pro Supershow.
Mike Sommerfeld’s Two-A-Day Workout Plan
Mike Sommerfeld began the day with back and chest before hitting shoulders and arms. He shared his workout plans along with his low-carb diet.
Back & Chest
- Cable Pullovers
- Dumbbell Reverse Flyes
- Smith Machine Bent-Over Rows
- Single-Arm Lat Pulldowns
- Chest Press Machine
“We already did two times cardio, posing session, right after the first workout. Then, we’re going to do some more cardio in between sessions, 30 minutes of walking, some meals in between. It’s going to be a good day.”
Shoulders & Arms
- Cable Upright Rows
- Lying Cable Lateral Raises
- Cable Crossover Tricep Extensions
- Barbell Curls
Sommerfeld detailed his workouts as 35-40 working sets, which equates to 120 sets in three days. He continued to discuss his diet plan now, which includes plenty of fish and chicken.
“Chicken and fish, 200 grams of tilapia, some salt, some pepper, that’s it. Getting some treatment, massage therapy to recover and the new going to go all over again on Friday. Total legs and for Saturday, we’re going to do total upper body day.”
Mike Sommerfeld is determined to win this title and compete for the overall prize toward the end of the year. This has been a grueling process leading up to Columbus and right now, it has been working. Sommerfeld is prepared to dial it back when needed, even if it is after the show.
“I don’t know how long I can do it. The first step, I will be highly overtrained, I will be super tired, lethargic. The next step is that I’m getting sick and the next step is the last step, that my body will start working against me. We need to be smart enough to know when stage number two is kicking in.”
