Roelly Winklaar Undergoes Shoulder Surgery

Roelly Winklaar goes under the knife.

Veteran bodybuilder, Roelly Winklaar recently was admitted to the hospital for shoulder surgery. The long time competitor has not competed since 2021 sparking rumor that he may be retired. This recent surgery may indicate that Winklaar could be planning a return.

Injuries can completely change the trajectory of the athlete career. One day you’re on top looking to cement yourself as one of the best at what you do, the next, can you find yourself on a hospital bed, hoping that your injuries can be repaired. While some injuries could lead to an athletes retirement, there are others that are reversible. It appears that Roelly Winklaar is hoping for the latter.

One of the most popular and massive bodybuilders in the modern era, Roelly Winklaar has established himself as a staple in the sport. Consistently cracking the top five at the Olympia in 2018 and 2019, as well as winning the Arnold Classic Australia in 2018, Winklaar, proved that he was one of the best bodybuilders in the world. Since that time, however, we’ve seen Winklaar’s placings slip. At the 2021 Olympia, we saw Winklaar drop to eleventh place. Later that year at the Romanian muscle, first pro, we saw Winklaar place ninth.

With his last few performances in 2021 not going as planned, as well as his absence during all of 2022, many believe that Roelly Winklaar had decided to hang it up. His downsizing also raised many eyebrows. But with no official announcement given, this has simply been considered speculation. They are also rumors that Winklaar plans on making a return to action in 2023. But first, the veteran bodybuilder has to undergo an important shoulder surgery.

Surgery in Brazil

In a recent post to social media Roelly Winklaar was filmed on a hospital gurney moments before going under the knife. According to the post surgery took place in Brazil.

If all goes well with the surgery, it’s possible that we could see Roelly Winklaar make a return to action in 2023. But will we see a return to form? For now, we’ll have to be patient and await the outcome.
