Shawn Ray made a controversial statement on Samson Dauda and his future in bodybuilding!
Samson Dauda has reached the pinnacle of bodybuilding. He was crowned Mr. Olympia champion in 2024. The question is, what does the future hold for Dauda?
Bodybuilding legend Shawn Ray spoke out about what he believes would be best for Dauda and that is to consider retiring from competition. Ray joined multiple podcasts recently to discuss this topic.
“Coming from my perspective, I don’t defend the title. That’s just me. There’s nowhere to go but down. There’s nothing more special about being a two-time Mr. Olympia, I think, than being a one-time Mr. Olympia. Big Ramy is Mr. Olympia. He won it twice to validate it.”
This might feel like a controversial statement from Ray, considering Dauda has reached the highest point of his career thus far. Ray joined Bob Cicherillo on The Voice Of Bodybuilding podcast and brought up this topic.
Shawn Ray Questions Whether Samson Dauda Should Defend Title
Shawn Ray stated his opinion about Samson Dauda following his first victory. He believes that this is all that’s needed in your career. Winning the award multiple times is an incredible accomplishment but Ray does not believe it makes it more special.
“I don’t know that another Mr. Olympia title makes it more special.”

Dauda, who was born in Nigeria, now lives in the United Kingdom. This is chance for the bodybuilder to bring this title back to his hometown and celebrate.
“I want him to go back to Nigeria too. To show those guys what an Olympia title looks like, what the Sandow Trophy looks like.”
Finally, Ray believes that the health of Dauda should be a priority. He has put on an incredible amount of size in order to win this title and was able to achieve his goal.
“He’s a 300-pound bodybuilder. When you push it like that, you’re putting yourself in harm’s way. He doesn’t have to. He doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone, he won the ultimate prize.”
