“There’s a lot that comes with success. It doesn’t come for free. I’ve reflected over the years on how much of my mental peace I had to sacrifice over the years to accomplish what I accomplished.”
After winning his sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in October 2024, Bumstead announced that he would be retiring. He took the stage one final time during the EVLS Prague Pro in Men’s Open and finished as the runner-up. Bumstead has not competed since. He has spoken about his new regime in retirement and that includes remaining in great shape. Now, he is taking on new challenges and goals while remaining as big as possible.

Chris Bumstead Discusses Sacrifices to be the Best
Bumstead might be done competing on stage but he has remained active in the gym to maintain an impressive physique. Now, he is just doing it in different ways. While his physical tools have remained top tier, Bumstead is also working to regain his mental peace after years of sacrifice.
“People talk about what you sacrifice. You don’t get to hang out with your friends, go party, go eat. But for me, the biggest sacrifice is my mental peace. The goal is here, to find that and maintain it, my mental peace while also thriving at a high level.”
Bumstead became known for his intense routines and incredible dedication during his career. It did not come east as he worked to climb to the top of the division.
“There’s been a lot of waking up at 5am, going through the day, weigh myself, weigh my food, go to the gym, work out. Everything is like am I good enough? Am I doing enough to win the Olympia? It’s all just compared to being Mr. Olympia and that level of success.”
Terrick El Guindy has spoken about his thoughts on Bumstead returning to bodybuilding. He believes that it will happen and when it does, it will be in Men’s Open. Chris Bumstead has spoken many times about doing an Open show if it was soon after the Olympia. That show happened to be in Prague last year and Bumstead made great strides in a short amount of time to compete in the biggest division. Following the competition, he shared that it was “arguably the most fun” he ever had competing.
