Cynthia James was successful in the bodybuilding world as a competitor, judge, and designer.
IFBB Pro bodybuilder Cynthia James passed away after a successful career in many avenues in the fitness world.
The news was shared by many different sources, including CJ’s Elite Competition Suits social media page. The page shared a heartfelt tribute to James where it spoke on her incredible work as a host and creator. According to the post, James passed away on Saturday. The cause of death was not revealed. In December, James was hospitalized with pneumonia and it caused congestive heart failure.
“Many of you knew CJ not just as the talented creator behind your competition wear, but as a dedicated member of the bodybuilding community. Her passion for the industry was evident in every suit she made, and she truly paved the way for so many. CJ became an icon in the industry, with many contributions over the past 30 years. She hosted shows, outfitted competitors, and much more. CJ’s legacy will live on forever, as she made an unforgettable impact.”
Many who knew and worked with James have commented and shared their own condolences, not just because of her work, but because of the impact she made as a person.
Cynthia James’ Incredible Career
Cynthia James gained a passion for fitness at a young age and was able to turn it into a successful career. James was able to build an elite physique herself but her skills ventured beyond the stage.
In 1996, James founded CJ’s Elite Custom Competition Suits. Within the company, she was able to create some of the best suits for Men’s and Women’s competitions. This includes Bikini, Figure, Fitness, Women’s Physique, Women’s Bodybuilding, and Classic Physique.

Over the years, James has worked with some of the top athletes in bodybuilding. This includes Phil Heath and Dexter Jackson. More recently, she created wear for Derek Lunsford. James made a major impact on the fitness world in many ways and her legacy will continue to live on.
