Lunsford denied these rumors in a video shared on YouTube on Wednesday. He has dealt with injuries during his career, including leading up to the Olympia in October, but did not resort fo synthetic fillers, such as polymethyl methacrylate, to help enhance his physique.
“This time, I feel like they have crossed the line because you’re not just hurting me, you’re hurting our bodybuilding community and there’s a lot of people that are young guys who are getting false information.”
Lunsford entered the 2025 season with big plans and has reached them thus far. He won the first-ever Men’s Open Pittsburgh Pro title, which came after his victory in Columbus during the 2025 Arnold Classic. He set his sights on the Olympia to complete the trifecta. After his win at the Olympia, Lunsford became the second bodybuilder to ever lose a title and win it back — joining Jay Cutler.

Derek Lunsford Denies PMMA Rumors
After his victory, Derek Lunsford shared that he suffered a torn pec on Sept. 10 while performing dumbbell presses. He was aware of the injury right when it happened but was able to make a quick recovery and even return to the gym ahead of the Olympia. He did so without the help of any fillers on stage, claiming that he does not know anything about them.
“If I thought whenever I was starting out and I wanted to be a bodybuilder, that I had to take something like that or do these different things, honestly, I don’t even know what that is.”
Lunsford set a goal to complete bodybuilding’s trifecta after his victories at the Arnold Classic and Pittsburgh Pro. He accomplished this goal by winning his second Olympia title. Hadi Choopan finished as the runner-up once again. It was a big-time performance by Andrew Jacked, who was one of the most improved bodybuilders over the course of the year, finishing in third place.
Derek Lunsford put together a successful career in multiple divisions, winning titles in both Men’s 212 and Open Bodybuilding. At this point of his career, he is proud of what he has accomplished and has done it without help of these substances.
“If I thought I had to do something like that to be where I’m at today, I would probably not be a bodybuilder. If people want to do it or whatever, I don’t care what other people do. I just know what I’m willing to do and not willing to do. That’s one thing I’m not willing to do, not wanting to do, and I’m not even interested in it.”
