Hafthor Bjornsson beats Mitchell Hooper in Enhanced Games Showdown, Falls Short of Record Pull
The biggest attraction of the controversial Enhanced Games officially delivered on the hype as Hafthor Bjornsson and Mitchell Hooper battled in a massive deadlift showdown Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Bjornsson ultimately secured the victory after successfully locking out 475kg, while both men failed on historic 515kg world record attempts in the final round.
But it was Mitchell Hooper’s final gamble that may have become the defining moment of the night.
After opening conservatively and building momentum through his first two lifts, Hooper shocked the crowd by calling for 515kg on his third attempt, immediately jumping into world-record territory despite never previously hitting that number in competition.
The reigning World’s Strongest Man attacked the weight fearlessly in what many fans viewed as a gutsy, all-or-nothing attempt to dethrone “The Mountain.” While the lift ultimately failed, the aggressive call instantly became one of the most talked-about moments of the Enhanced Games.

Thor Continues His Reign As Deadlift King
Bjornsson entered the event already holding the all-time deadlift world record at 510kg (1,124 pounds) and once again proved why he remains one of the most feared strength athletes on the planet.
His successful 475kg second attempt effectively locked up the contest before the dramatic final round began.
Thor then attempted to extend his own record to 515kg but could not complete the lift.
Even in defeat on the final attempt, the Icelandic giant still walked away with the victory and further cemented his legacy as arguably the greatest deadlifter in history.
Hooper’s Gamble Nearly Broke The Internet
Many expected Hooper to play things safer strategically after securing 440kg on his second attempt.
Instead, he went directly for history.
The move drew immediate reactions online because Hooper skipped incremental jumps entirely and went straight for a number beyond Thor’s current world record.
Though the bar ultimately stayed grounded, the willingness to attack 515kg head-on earned massive respect from strength fans watching live.
Enhanced Games Continue To Spark Debate
The deadlift showdown also continued the larger conversation surrounding the Enhanced Games themselves.
The event openly allows competitors to use performance-enhancing drugs under medical supervision, creating enormous controversy throughout the sports world.
Enhanced reported that 91-percent of athletes in the competition used testosterone, 79-percent used human growth hormone, while 29-percent used anabolic steroids.
Supporters argue the competition embraces transparency and pushes human performance forward. Critics believe it normalizes dangerous PED abuse and sends the wrong message to younger athletes.
Regardless of the debate, “The Mountain vs. The Moose” showdown instantly became one of the most talked-about strength events of 2026.
