Jeremy Allen White is one of the most recognizable physiques on TV right now, and with Season 5 of The Bear arriving this week, interest in how the actor built his muscular frame is surging once again.

While White has never claimed to be a hardcore gym rat, his transformation for The Iron Claw required a dramatic increase in calories, heavy lifting, and a temporary break from his beloved cardio routines. According to Men’s Health Australia, White admitted the process was far from enjoyable, describing the constant eating required to gain size as “gross” and saying it was “no way to live.” Still, the strategy worked, helping him pack on muscle to portray wrestler Kerry Von Erich before later slimming down into the leaner look fans recognize today.

While White never revealed a detailed workout split, he made it clear that strength training became the priority.

That balanced approach may be more sustainable long term. While White successfully added muscle for one of the biggest roles of his career, he has been candid that the constant eating and aggressive bulking weren’t something he wanted to maintain indefinitely.

As The Bear returns for another season, White remains a reminder that dramatic Hollywood transformations often come down to the basics: eat more, lift heavy, stay consistent, and then adjust training once the role is over.
