Larry Wheels discussed how training as a bodybuilder was different for him.
Larry Wheels has taken on many challenges in the fitness world. He continues to be one of the most popular stars within the industry thanks to his insane strength and great versatility. Wheels is a former bodybuilder that has competed at the amateur level. He has trained with many different goals in mind but believes his bodybuilding days were the best in the gym.

Wheels had previously been working toward earning his Pro Card in bodybuilding. He finished as the runner-up at the 2023 Amateur Olympia and came close to accomplishing this goal. Wheels had been off steroids but shared that he “relapsed” and went back on a full cycle, which prompted him to quit bodybuilding all together and pursue a healthier lifestyle.
During his career, Wheels has has been everywhere in the fitness world, including powerlifting, bodybuilding, and even arm wrestling. He became known for his feats of strength early on and his chiseled physique. Wheels was able to turn this into a chance on the bodybuilding stage.
Larry Wheels Talks Bodybuilding Training
During an interview, Larry Wheels got the chance to discuss the difference in training over the course of his career. As a powerlifter, Wheels was always being watched and expected to put up an insane amount of weight. While most of the time he was successful, there is a certain pressure that isn’t there bodybuilding.
“As a bodybuilder, people have expectations because how you look, of how much you should lift. The camera was always rolling as long as I could remember. As a bodybuilder, now this year, has been the best time for me training because no one’s watching.”
Wheels continued to explain the atmosphere in the gyms he would train in and how the company was other bodybuilders. There was no expectation from his lifts.
“I’m training in a private gym. No one’s judging, they’re all aspiring bodybuilders. I’m not recording every single workout. When the cameras on, it’s ‘oh Larry is only lifting x amount of weight. He used to do this amount. What’s wrong with him? I miss the old Larry’ and it’s just like guys, this is part of the process.”
