Lee Priest recalls the insane leg day workouts he went through with the legendary Tom Platz.

Pro Bodybuilder Lee Priest enjoyed a successful career on the stage and now remains open about the sport of bodybuilding in retirement. He has discussed many issues around the sport but also shares his own experiences. During a recent interview, Priest recalled a leg day routine he went through with the legendary Tom Platz. In this post, we will detail the leg day routine Lee Priest experienced with legendary bodybuilder, Tom Platz.

Priest enjoyed a career on stage that spanned into three decades. He has had the chance to compete against legendary bodybuilders like Flex Wheeler, Shawn Rayand Chris CormierBefore calling it a career in 2013, Priest won the NABBA Mr. Universe competition. Priest quickly became known for his incredible conditioning and massive biceps.

While he never got the chance to win one, Greene went toe-to-toe with Phil Heath during many Olympia competitions. The two created one of the greatest rivalries in bodybuilding. In 2011, Greene finished third at the Olympia and would go on to be the runner-up in the next three. He is still regarded as one of the best bodybuilders to never win an Olympia.

During his career, Priest built one of the most aesthetically-pleasing physiques in the world. He was a freak in the gym but Platz was able to push him to his limits.

Lee Priest: “My Nervous System Was So Fu**ing Tired”

Lee Priest joined Milos Sarcev on a recent edition of the Jujitoine Podcast where he was able to discuss the training session.

“When I tried with Tom, Tom Platz, we would always mainly stick around four or five plates and just really rep them out. You know, Tom was crazy on static holds. Whether it be leg press, hack squats, go halfway, hold it, then he would start pulling on the fu**ing thing. Saying, ‘go back up, Lee. Come back down.'”

Priest continued to speak on the training session and how he felt after.

“I’d get home that night and wake up in the middle of the night thinking I’m having a heart attack because my nervous system is so f**ing fried from doing legs with Tom. I’d wake up in a sweat at 1 o’clock like ‘I’m having a heart attack. This is it.'”

The overall size of Tom Platz’s legs was insane, and they remain huge to this day. Priest recalls what it would be like when Platz would flex his legs.

“In Gold’s Gym, he had his green belt on doing squats. His legs had the shape but as soon as he flexed them, they doubled in size. It’s like what the f**k?”

Tom Platz continues to be a big name in bodybuilding and is known for his insane legs, some of the best legs on the planet. His techniques are still discussed and used today when competitors want to build size in their quads and hamstrings. Lee Priest recalls these training sessions as some of the most intense he has gone through.
