The bodybuilding community is mourning another tragic loss. IFBB Pro Men’s Physique competitor Mailson Araújo died suddenly at 35 after suffering a sudden medical emergency at his home in Alagoinhas, Bahia, Brazil, just days before he was scheduled to compete at Musclecontest Brazil 2026. According to Brazilian outlet Globo and multiple reports, Araújo became ill at home on Monday evening. His mother, who works as a nursing technician, immediately began lifesaving efforts before firefighters and emergency medical personnel arrived. Despite their attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The news comes just hours after Araújo shared photos from the gym on social media as he continued preparing for one of the biggest competitions of his season.
Mailson Araújo Was Preparing for Musclecontest Brazil
Araújo was expected to compete this weekend at Musclecontest Brazil 2026 in Curitiba, an important IFBB Pro League event that attracts many athletes looking to improve their standing and build momentum toward future Olympia qualification opportunities.

A Rising Men’s Physique Competitor
Although his professional career lasted only three years, Araújo had steadily established himself within Brazil’s competitive bodybuilding scene.
He earned his IFBB Pro card in 2023 after capturing the overall amateur Men’s Physique title at the Arnold Classic South America. Since turning professional, he consistently remained in contention at regional IFBB Pro League contests, including:

- Top-four finish at Musclecontest Brazil (2024)
- Top-four finish at Musclecontest Nordeste (2025)
Araújo saw the 2026 season as a chance to continue climbing the professional ranks after spending recent months preparing for his return to the stage.
