Chris Bumstead spoke with his coach about a potential move to Men’s Open for a show.

Chris Bumstead has been featured in rumors regarding his status in Classic Physique and retirement for quite some time now. Also, he has teased a move to Men’s Open in the future. During a recent interview with his coach, Hany Rambod, Bumstead hinted at competing in an Open show once again.

During the 2022 Olympia, Bumstead was able to win his fourth consecutive Classic Physique title. Since reaching the pinnacle of bodybuilding, Bumstead has been one of the biggest names, if not the biggest, in bodybuilding. Bumstead has regularly shared his diets and workouts on his extremely successful YouTube page.

Bumstead has also discussed some of his setbacks, such as suffering a torn bicep heading into Olympia weekend. Despite his injury, Bumstead was able to cruise to victory and remains the name to beat in Classic Physique. Naturally, this begs the question, how would be fair in Men’s Open?

Bumstead will be the center of a Generation Iron film that is currently in the works, going through his life and career in bodybuilding. On set, Bumstead has mentioned a potential move to Open but nothing has been set in stone just yet.

Chris Bumstead Hints At Competing In Open In 2024

Chris Bumstead took over the Olympia title in Classic Physique in 2019 and there has not been much threat of giving it up to this point. While that remains his focus moving forward, Bumstead played around with the idea of moving up during an appearance on The Truth podcast.

“Imagine that, pulling out of the Classic Physique and going to the Open. So, as I always say, I would never push myself on certain things, and train at a certain level, and do anything throughout a year or two years’ time to be in the Open, like I don’t want to push for a year to be in the Open, but I would love to peak for an Open show.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger has called on Chris Bumstead to compete at the Arnold Classic but he has yet to take the bait. Because the show takes place three months after the Olympia, Bumstead has stayed away. If the show took place right after, that might be a different story.

“I have said that if the Arnold moved to three, two weeks post-Olympia, I’d do the Open at the Arnold.”

“I’m curious what would happen if we fed me into a show and really blew up – I would lose some minds. And it wouldn’t look good for Classic. I’d have to come in really lean and everyone is lean and I have a weight cap.”

While a move to Men’s Open is not set in stone for Chris Bumstead, it is something that he has touched on during multiple interviews. It is definitely something fans would want to see. There is no doubt that a move for Bumstead would be the top story in the world of bodybuilding.

“Maybe one year, if time allows it, my health allows it, maybe if I’m in shape post-Olympia or something. Even last year, and I was thinking this when we were talking about peak week, we were still so conservative.”
