The Men’s Physique division will be without Diogo Montenegro at the 2024 Olympia.
The 2024 Olympia will be without a major contender in the Men’s Physique division this weekend.
On Tuesday, 2024 Arnold Classic champion Diogo Montenegro announced that he has dropped out of the biggest show of the year. Montenegro shared a post on Instagram explaining that he made this decision after consulting with his coach.
“I never thought I would need to write a message like this, but unfortunately my coach and I decided that it would be best for me not to compete in the Olympia this year.”
Montenegro has emerged as one of the top competitors in Men’s Physique over the last year. He has competed in the Olympia seven times in his career and recently took big steps forward. In 2022, he finished third at the Olympia after finishing as the runner-up in Columbus. Montenegro was a top-five competitor once again last season before his victory at the Arnold this year.
Diogo Montenegro Out Of 2024 Olympia
Diogo Montenegro shared that he faced difficulties with the health of his family and this caused major stress. This played a role in his prep not going the way he wanted it.
“During this prep I faced so many difficulties regarding the health of my wife and daughter, that the stress and sleepless nights directly influenced my physical response.”

The Men’s Physique division will be exciting once again. In 2023, Ryan Terry dethroned reigning champion Erin Banks to capture the Men’s Physique Olympia title in an electrifying contest. Terry’s impeccable conditioning helped him outshine a stacked lineup, which included Banks, Brandon Hendrickson, and Jeremy Buendia, marking a career-defining moment. Hendrickson and Buendia will not be competing this year. With Montenegro also out, this means a battle between Terry and Banks could be the headliner once again.
Diogo Montenegro explained how he wanted to bring his very best to the stage and was willing to go to great heights to accomplish this goal. Unfortunately, circumstances did not allow this and Montenegro believes this was his best option.
“I would like to apologize for disappointing everyone that was expecting to see me on stage, but I guarantee, as a hard-working man and a dreamer, I will use this situation to strengthen myself and pursue my goal of becoming the best Men’s Physique in the world.”
