Hooper hit a training session at West Coast Iron Gym in Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada. He decided to rack up a weight that he had never lifted before while using platforms. Hooper has been working with 18 inches but completed this lift off 15. He stepped up to the barbell with a weight belt and lifting straps.
“Harder than it should’ve been. Like 500, three inches higher. Add a suit, things are getting serious.”
Hooper is a two-time World’s Strongest Man champion. He won the 2023 competition before finishing second to Tom Stoltman last year. The 2025 WSM is scheduled for May 15-18 in Sacramento. Stoltman will look to become the sixth man to win four titles while Hooper will be among the favorites to win his third.
Mitchell Hooper Eyeing Deadlift World Record
During a recent sit down with Muscle Insider, Mitchell Hooper shared that he plans to go after the deadlift world record and set his own mark of 505kg.
“The deadlift world record is absolutely something I’ll be going after this year. That’ll be 505kg. Eddie and Thor have argued for too long over 500 and 501. I like them both so I’m gonn put all of that to an end for everyone’s sake and I will deadlift 505 kilos in Birmingham, England this year.”
Hafthor Bjornsson currently holds the world record deadlift using a standard bar at 501kg. He broke Eddie Hall’s record of 500kg, becoming the second man ever to reach this mark. Bjornsson has held this record for years now and it has been something that he has gone back and forth with Hall about. Hooper wants to put all talking to an end and set his own mark.
Before Hooper can set his sights on the deadlift world record, he will work to get through the World’s Strongest Man event. He will enter as one of the favorites to win and keep his name near the top of the sport.
