Raymont Edmonds opens up about the Men’s Open results from Olympia 2020 and the significance of height in bodybuilding.

Raymont Edmonds might be a Men’s Physique bodybuilder but he’s certainly a big fan of the Men’s Open division as well. He was watching the Mr. Olympia 2020 finals night just like everyone else and excited by what was presented on stage. In our latest GI Exclusive interview, Raymont Edmonds shares his analysis on the Olympia 2020 Men’s Open results.

Raymont Edmonds is just one of many bodybuilders who was extremely impressed by the Men’s Open Olympia 2020 competition. After two or three years of controversial decisions and opinions about the lineups, this year seemed to be universally enjoyed by everyone.

It’s actually surprising given the fact that COVID-19 loomed heavy leading up to the competition. After postponing the date, a location change, and many athletes dropping out last minute – this event seemed primed to be a potential letdown. Perhaps letdown is too strong of a word. But it seemed that perhaps this year would have another asterisk on it.

Ultimately, what we got was a very exciting show with some incredible physiques on display. Like many others, Raymont Edmonds had no disagreement with the top five decisions. Big Ramy was extremely impressive and certainly showed the best physique of his career. The same could be said of Brandon Curry – a competitor who did not win but did not wane in terms of personal development.

Hadi Choopan also proved that his top five placing in 2019 was no fluke. He maintained incredible conditioning that held him into fourth place. Raymont Edmonds couldn’t even find one thing to complain about regarding the lineup and results. Though he did acknowledge that Phil Heath landing third was a bit of a surprise. This is largely due to many predicting that the battle would be between Heath and Ramy in the week leading up to the event.

But the moment that the pre-judging begun, it was clear that many expectations would not be met. Instead, we received pleasant surprises in the form of some bodybuilders stepping up on a level no one could have expected.

Raymont Edmonds also discusses how height affects bodybuilding during major competitions. Edmonds is a tall bodybuilder himself, and made note that Big Ramy was not only massive in muscle, but is one of the tallest bodybuilders on stage. Edmonds believes that height provides a major plus for bodybuilders. It makes it easier for them to stand out.

Does this guarantee better chance for victory? Not necessarily. If you stand out more but your physique is off – the negative points are more noticed as well. Being a tall bodybuilder can be an important attribute but only if the work is done right leading up to the show.
