Samson Dauda Reveals Biggest Lesson From 2025 Olympia Prep: ‘We Have to Rewrite the Book’

Samson Dauda Says He’s Avoiding Last Year’s Biggest Prep Mistake Ahead of 2026 Mr. Olympia

With just under 10 weeks remaining before the 2026 Mr. Olympia, Samson Dauda isn’t simply pushing harder in pursuit of another Sandow trophy. Instead, Dauda is applying one of the biggest lessons from last year’s contest prep. He has revealed that he and his team have completely changed their strategy after seeing how differently his body is responding this year.

In a new YouTube video documenting his Olympia preparation, Dauda explained that this prep has been unlike any other of his career. After introducing cardio, his physique responded so quickly that he and his team decided to hit the brakes. Instead of continuing to push toward extreme conditioning too early, they adopted a different approach.

Rather than repeating the approach that led into last year’s Olympia, Dauda says every adjustment is now being carefully monitored. He attempts to arrive on stage with the perfect balance of conditioning. In addition, he seeks muscle fullness.

Samson Dauda Says This Year’s Olympia Prep Is Unlike Anything He’s Experienced Before

According to Dauda, previous contest preps followed a familiar pattern. He would gradually reduce food, add cardio, and steadily lean out while maintaining muscle mass throughout the process.

This year, however, things changed almost immediately.

After adding just two cardio sessions early in the week, Dauda said his body responded far faster than expected.

“We started cardio two days… and immediately I just literally started dropping fast.”

Instead of viewing the rapid progress as a positive, Dauda and his team recognized that it could become a problem if left unchecked. Rather than continuing to increase cardio or further reduce calories, they chose to reassess their approach.

The changes were so noticeable that Dauda said they shared updates with coach Anthony and trusted friends. All agreed he was already progressing ahead of schedule despite still being approximately nine and a half weeks from the Olympia.

“We had to sort of re-sit down and rethink things,” Dauda explained.

Learning From Last Year’s Olympia Prep

For Dauda, the biggest takeaway from last year’s Olympia preparation wasn’t simply getting lean enough. It was learning that chasing condition too aggressively can come at the expense of the muscle built throughout the offseason.

He admitted that he and his team fell into that trap during the previous prep.

“People will think, ‘Oh, that’s a good thing.’ Yeah, great. But you need to understand that we fell for this last year.”

Rather than celebrating rapid fat loss, Dauda believes it’s more important to protect the muscle and size that took months of work to develop.

“Just because your goal is to get condition doesn’t mean that you should put all your focus on that regardless of holding on to the size and muscle you’ve fought all year to put on.”

That lesson has completely changed the way they’re approaching the final weeks before this year’s Olympia.

Why Samson Dauda Says He Has To “Rewrite The Book”

Because his physique is responding faster than ever before, Dauda says this prep no longer resembles the blueprint that worked in previous seasons.

“We have to rewrite the book on how I prep this year.”

Instead of making aggressive weekly changes, every adjustment is now being tracked closely. Dauda explained that even small tweaks to cardio or nutrition can produce visible changes within just a couple of days. This allows his team to evaluate whether they’re progressing at the right pace.

“We have to change, add the change, and then watch very closely the first few days of that change to see that it’s working, but it’s not working too much.”

The process has forced Dauda and his team to document every adjustment. They have essentially started from scratch with a new contest prep strategy tailored to how his body is responding in 2026.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Olympia

With nine weeks remaining before bodybuilding’s biggest event, Dauda believes patience could ultimately be the difference maker.

Rather than rushing to achieve peak conditioning, he’s focused on arriving at the Olympia with the combination of size, fullness, and conditioning needed to challenge for another Sandow trophy. If his body continues responding at its current pace, Dauda’s biggest challenge may not be getting lean enough. Instead, it could be knowing exactly when to ease off the accelerator.
