The 2025 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) has come to a close and the finals prove d to be a heated battle for the books. A full roster which included previous WSM winners, 3x reigning WSM champion Tom Stoltman and the 2023 WSM champion Mitchell Hooper entering the competition in the field. In the end, a surprising victory came in the form of Rayno Nel – just squeaking past former champion Tom Stoltman.

The Flintstone Press Max began the action in the final day of the 2025 WSM competition. This event made its return for the first time since 2022, when Oleksii Novikov set a competition record with a 246kg lift.

Rayno Nel entered the final day with a seven-point lead but the first event provided some parody heading into the final competition. Tom Stoltman and Trey Mitchell tied for the lead in the event with six reps. Mitchell Hooper, who came in nine poitns behind Nel, finished tied for third.

Event Five – Atlas Stones

The iconic Atlas Stones closed out the battle for glory, featuring five monstrous stones ranging from 140 to 210 kilograms. The rules were simple—load all five faster than your rivals, and victory was yours. But this wasn’t just another heat. Unlike the usual format where athletes go in reverse order of the previous event’s standings, this time the pressure was dialed all the way up.

With the World’s Strongest Man title on the line, the stones were tackled in order of current leaderboard rankings—turning every lift into a make-or-break moment in the quest for the crown.

  1. Tom Stoltman (UK) — Five in 31.76 seconds
  2. Trey Mitchell (US) — Five in 41.08 seconds
  3. Rayno Nel (RSA) — Four in 30.17 seconds
  4. Mitchell Hooper (CA) — Four in 31.02 seconds
  5. Paddy Haynes (UK) — Four in 34.07 seconds
  6. Pavlo Kordiyaka (UKR) — Four in 38.39 seconds
  7. Shane Flowers (UK) — Four in 54.09 seconds

Event One – KNAACK Carry & Hoist

In a brutal test of strength and grit, each strongman was put to the gauntlet—Zercher carrying a beastly 250 kilograms for 20 meters, followed by a grueling arm-over-arm pull of 200 kilograms up an eight-meter ascent.

While all eyes were locked on the headline clash between rising powerhouse Mitchell Hooper and former champ Tom Stoltman, the real shock came from dark horse Rayno Nel. Defying the odds and silencing the crowd, Nel stormed through the event to claim victory with just under four seconds on the clock, making a massive statement in the race for the World’s Strongest Man title.

  • Rayno Nel (RSA) — 30.58 seconds
  • Tom Stoltman (UK) — 34.49 seconds
  • Mitchell Hooper (CA) — 35.41 seconds
  • Paddy Haynes (UK) — 36.97 seconds
  • Pavlo Kordiyaka (UKR) — 37.42 seconds
  • Eddie Williams (AU) — 38.11 seconds
  • Ondrej Fojtů (CZ) — 40.95 seconds
  • Luke Stoltman (UK) — 45.58 seconds
  • Trey Mitchell (US) — 49.38 seconds

Event Two – 18″ Max Deadlift

This event went down in intense elimination-style rounds, with each athlete battling to hoist a set weight in order to move forward. Decked out in lifting belts and power suits, the competitors came prepared for war.

Notably, Tom Stoltman and Paddy Haynes opted to go raw from the ground up—lifting in socks—while the majority played it safe with lifting shoes. It was a gritty display of strategy, strength, and pure willpower as each round raised the stakes.

  1. Trey Mitchell (US) — 500 kilograms
  2. Rayno Nel (RSA) — 490 kilograms
  3. Mitchell Hooper (CA) — 465 kilograms (T-third)
  4. Tom Stoltman (UK) — 465 kilograms (T-third)
  5. Paddy Haynes (UK) — 465 kilograms (T-third)
  6. Ondrej Fojtů (CZ) — 465 kilograms (T-third)
  7. Shane Flowers (UK) — 465 kilograms (T-third)
  8. Pavlo Kordiyaka (UKR) — 435 kilograms (T-eighth)
  9. Eddie Williams (AU) — 435 kilograms (T-eighth)
  10. Luke Stoltman (UK) — 402 kilograms

Event Three – Hercules Hold

The third day of the 2025 World’s Strongest Man (WSM) Finals wrapped with a fan-favorite grip gauntlet—the Hercules Hold. In this ultimate test of pain tolerance and mental fortitude, each athlete locked into position, gripping a savage 350 kilograms in each hand—700 kilograms total—and held on for dear life. No steps, no movement, just raw, static power until the body gave out. It was a showdown of sheer determination as the world’s top strongmen stared down the steel and refused to let go.

  1. Eddie Williams (AU) — 82.14 seconds
  2. Rayno Nel (RSA) — 75.63 seconds
  3. Paddy Haynes (UK) — 59.64 seconds
  4. Ondrej Fojtů (CZ) — 55.41 seconds
  5. Shane Flowers (UK) — 40.26 seconds
  6. Mitchell Hooper (CA) — 40.09 seconds
  7. Luke Stoltman (UK) — 32.3 seconds
  8. Tom Stoltman (UK) — 31.82 seconds
  9. Pavlo Kordiyaka (UKR) — 29.1 seconds
  10. Trey Mitchell (US) — 22.29 seconds

Earlier in the week, 25 strongman athletes competed in the 2025 World’s Strongest Man qualifiers – facing off in five events to determine which 10 athletes would qualify for the finals this weekend. It was a bitter battle of the world’s strongest all trying to prove themselves – but only 10 could ultimately move forward.

Generation Iron was on the ground floor providing full coverage of the qualifying events. You can get a recap of how each event unfolded below:
