Charles Glass Pushes 300-Lb Bodybuilder to the Limit on Leg Day, Reveals His Ultimate Secrets for Building Massive Legs

The “Godfather of Bodybuilding” Charles Glass Pushes 300-Lb Bodybuilder to the Limit on Leg Day

Legendary bodybuilding coach Charles Glass is still proving why some of the sport’s biggest names have trusted him for decades. In a recent YouTube training session, Glass pushed a massive 300-pound bodybuilder through a brutal leg workout, focusing less on moving maximum weight and more on maximizing muscle contractions, positioning, and execution.

Throughout the workout, Glass emphasized that tiny changes in foot placement and body position can dramatically alter muscle recruitment. His goal was simple: stimulate every area of the quads and hamstrings while keeping tension where it belongs.

Charles Glass’ Ultimate Leg Day Workout

Glass guided the bodybuilder through the following session:

Workout

Leg Extensions

  • 12-15 reps
  • Toes turned outward
  • Focus on activating the inner quad and vastus medialis
  • Moderate weight with strict control

45-Degree Leg Press

  • Medium-width stance
  • Toes pointed outward
  • Emphasis on both inner quad development and outer sweep
  • Controlled tempo without locking out

Hack Squat

  • Traditional and reverse variations
  • Front squat-style foot positioning
  • Focus on driving through the heels
  • Constant tension throughout the movement

45-Degree Hip Extension (Hyperextension)

  • Hips pushed forward
  • Weighted plate resistance
  • Targeting the proximal hamstrings rather than the lower back
  • Slow contractions and full stretches

Seated Leg Curl

  • Toes turned slightly inward
  • Increased emphasis on hamstring contraction
  • Controlled repetitions and peak squeezes

Glass repeatedly stressed that chasing heavier weights often causes lifters to lose the very muscle activation they’re trying to create. Instead, he encouraged slowing down the negative portion of each rep and focusing on feeling the target muscle work throughout the movement.

Charles Glass’ Biggest Leg Training Secret

One of the most interesting coaching cues from the workout involved foot positioning.

On leg extensions, Glass had the athlete turn his toes outward to increase emphasis on the inner quad. During leg presses, he again utilized toe positioning to hit different portions of the thigh. For hamstrings, he instructed the athlete to turn the toes slightly inward during curls to create a stronger contraction.

These adjustments might seem minor, but Glass believes they’re often the difference between simply moving weight and actually building muscle.

The veteran coach also emphasized avoiding explosive, uncontrolled reps. Instead, he advocated for maintaining tension through the entire range of motion, particularly during the eccentric phase.

Who Is Charles Glass?

Known throughout the fitness industry as the “Godfather of Bodybuilding,” Charles Glass is widely considered one of the most influential bodybuilding coaches of all time.

Glass has worked with numerous elite competitors throughout his career, including Dexter Jackson, Chris Cormier, and Shawn Rhoden. His coaching style combines biomechanics, engineering principles, and decades of practical experience to create unique training techniques that maximize muscle activation.

Unlike many coaches who prioritize simply lifting heavier weights, Glass has built his reputation on teaching athletes how to manipulate angles, leverage, and positioning to get more from every repetition.

That philosophy was on full display in this latest leg day session.
