After winning his sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in October 2024, Bumstead announced that he would be retiring. He took the stage one final time during the EVLS Prague Pro in Men’s Open and finished as the runner-up. Bumstead has not competed since. He has spoken about his new regime in retirement and that includes remaining in great shape.
Bumstead hit a workout with Iain Valliere and on the way to the gym, the duo discussed the 2025 Olympia rosters.

Chris Bumstead’s Top 5 Olympia Picks
Bumstead discussed the Men’s Open division but of course had to show love to Classic as well. It began with Bumstead’s Top 5 Mr. Olympia picks:
- First Place – Samson Dauda
- Second Place – Hadi Choopan
- Third Place – Nick Walker
- Fourth Place – Derek Lunsford
- Fifth Place – Andrew Jacked
“I think Samson is gonna win too, but I don’t like it. I like Samson but every time I look at him, I think ‘you could be leaner.’ In my opinion, I shouldn’t look at a Mr. Olympia and think you could be leaner.”
Bumstead picked Dauda to successfully defend his title this weekend. Despite being a fan of his physique, Bumstead believes Dauda could be leaner on stage. He then moved onto his picks for Classic and it began with the runner-up last year.
- First Place – Mike Sommerfeld
- Second Place – Ramon Dino
- Third Place – Terrence Ruffin
- Fourth Place – Matthew Greggo
- Fifth Place – Jose Manuel Munoz
“It depends who’s gonna make weight, that’s the real question. I feel like the lines on Mike, he gets so peeled and so dense. Ramon still looks a little smooth sometimes, even genetically. He doesn’t have that same density, hardness to him.”
Finally, Chris Bumstead had to share his thoughts on Urs Kalecinski and his debut in the Mr. Olympia competition. He believes that Kalecinski can make some noise in his Men’s Open debut on the biggest stage.
“I would put him at seventh place, because I believe in the Classic boys. None of them have been very consistent the past few years but it’s very possible.”
