Chris Bumstead Shoots Down Idea of Retirement at 2023 Olympia?

The classic physique champ may not be done yet

The biggest weekend in bodybuilding is finally here, the 2023 Mr. Olympia contest, a weekend full of some of the most muscular physiques in the world battling it out for the title in their own respective divisions. One of the biggest names in the sport right now, specifically in Classic Physique, Chris Bumstead, may have just shot down the ideas of retiring at the 2023 Mr. Olympia press conference

There have been rumors of Chris Bumstead retiring for some time now, as he has collected multiple Olympia titles in the Classic Physique Division, and has had some health issues in the past, so there were some whispers that he would be retiring from the stage after going for a fifth title. However, at the Olympia Press Conference, these rumors may have been shot down.

What is the Olympia Press Conference?

olympia press conference

The press conference is the part of the Olympia where competitors are all gathered on stage and asked questions pertaining to their lifestyles, the show, and so on. Some people that were asking hard hitting questions included Phil Heath and Shawn Ray, prominent 90s bodybuilders. There is the usual smack talk, about each competitor bringing their best and winning, as they have to go into these shows confident, and the press conference is the time to show that off, but one part of that press conference that stood out involved Chris Bumstead.

Chris Bumstead Might Not be Retiring

A hard hitting question that Chris Bumstead was asked pertained to his possible retirement from Classic and maybe even stepping into the Men’s Open Division next year. His response may have just shot down any speculation of that happening. His response to the question included him saying “I don’t know if you’re trying to get these guys’ hopes’ up, but I am right where I belong”, indicating that he is not going anywhere, even after this year’s Mr. Olympia contest

This could be due to the weight cap for classic physique being increased, allowing for a few extra pounds, meaning Chris can put on some more solid muscle mass before he hits his limit.

Wrap Up

That being said, do you think it is time for Chris Bumstead to throw the towel in? Or do you think he should continue to go for those Olympia titles?
