“Everybody who thinks Chris Bumstead is retired for good is wrong, and I’m gonna tell you why.”
After winning his sixth Classic Physique Olympia title in October 2024, Bumstead announced that he would be retiring. He took the stage one final time during the EVLS Prague Pro in Men’s Open and finished as the runner-up. Now, he is taking on new challenges and goals while remaining as big as possible. He shared that this was his goals moving forward but others believe he could return to the stage in the future.
Is Chris Bumstead Going To Return In Men’s Open?
Chris Bumstead impressed with his performance at the Prague Pro but finished second to Martin Fitzwater. Bumstead began his career with a victory in the Men’s Open division and El Guindy believes this is where it will continue.
“Chris Bumstead started his career as a bodybuilder at the North Americans. He won the heavyweight class. He ended his supposed career with a second place. This man is young, he’s used to winning. He did not like losing. I think as time passes by, he’s going to say ‘I’m going to come back and compete as an Open bodybuilder.”
Chris Bumstead has spoken many times about doing an Open show if it was soon after the Olympia. That show happened to be in Prague last year and Bumstead made great strides in a short amount of time to compete in the biggest division. Following the competition, he shared that it was “arguably the most fun” he ever had competing.
Bumstead left the door slightly open on a return to competition but for now, he seems content in retirement. If he is to make a return, El Guindy believes it will be at a Mr. Olympia competition after receiving a special invitation in Men’s Open.
“He needs to go back to the Open at the Mr. Olympia. I think he’s going to ask Dan Solomon for an invitation for the 2026 or 2027 Open Mr. Olympia and I think he’s training very hard for that.”
