Lunsford entered the 2025 season with big plans and has reached them thus far. He won the first-ever Men’s Open Pittsburgh Pro title, which came after his victory in Columbus during the 2025 Arnold Classic. He now has his sights set on the Olympia to complete the trifecta. If he is able to win the Olympia, Lunsford would be the second bodybuilder to ever lose a title and win it back — joining Jay Cutler.
Derek Lunsford’s Ultimate Hydration Drink
Derek Lunsford makes his hydration drink many times during the day. It can come during his workout but also is beneficial as a pre-workout or post-workout drink:
- Water
- Lemons
- Celtic Salt (Non-Iodized)
Iodine supports healthy thyroid function. If Lunsford wants another option, he will take the Jocko Hydrate drink. This contains 300mg of sodium, which provides hydration by replenishing electrolytes.
“Potassium chloride and magnesium are super important eletrolytes, have some extra vitamins and minerals. Beyond those, this is an ideal hydration drink, especially first thing in the morning or around your workout.”

- Anti-Aging Multivitamins
“Make sure you’re functionally optimally inside because if you’re not, it will be hard to have the results that you want on the outside for your physique and the stage.”
Derek Lunsford’s Full Day of Eating

Meal 1
The first meal of the day was a favorite for Lunsford during this time. He explained how he does not count his calories over the course of the day. This is up to Chris Aceto, who Lunsford has been working with during his prep for the Olympia.
- 7oz Bison
- 400g Rice
“If I had a favorite meal, it’s probably this one. I love the bison and rice.”
Meal 2
Lunsford makes sure to get enough meals in before he hits the gym. For meal two, he focuses on higher protein once again. He explains that he is doing one red meal meal and will sometimes swap it out for a fish.
- Cod
- Shrimp
- Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce
“One, it’s good because you get different nutrients from each type of animal meat, and then also it just doesn’t make the diet boring.”
Meal 3
The third meal of the day for Lunsford is pre workout. It is a simple combination that has worked wonders for decades.
- 7oz Chicken
- 500g Rice
“Feeling a little sleepy after that big meal I just had, all those carbs. Time to wake up and get after it. Time to do that champ work.”
Meal 4
Finally, Derek Lunsford throws a wrinkle into his post workout meal with his protein shake.
- 2 Bananas
- Chocolate Protein Shake
“Today, we’re going with gas station bananas. I completely forgot my bananas at home. Post-workout every day, you guys already know.”
