Yates took to Instagram on Wednesday to share his latest update following surgery. He underwent surgery last week to repair an injured right hip that was damaged while squatting with incredible weight. Yates had surgery back in 1987 to remove fascia from the joint.
“Exactly 1 week ago, I had surgery on my right hip.
It was right hip total replacement surgery.”

Following his original surgery, Dorian Yates enjoyed a successful career as a bodybuilder that allowed him to train with the best of the best. He has limited certain activities, such as biking and hiking, but does not regret anything from this.
“I don’t have any regrets and this op has a very high success rate so no worries at all. I’m looking forward to another 20 plus years of exercise with this new titanium hip!
I see it as battle scars from all that hard training, it could be said that maybe if I didn’t do all that training that I wouldn’t need surgery.”
Yates asked doctors if he could keep a piece of his bone following the operation. He was given a piece in a jar and shared the photo following the operation. Yates shared that he will now take this chance to relax and catch up in other areas.
“So I’ll be using this time to do a lot more reading, relaxing, physio and brush up on my Spanish, amongst other things. Any situation can be what you want it to be.”
