Flex Wheeler Shares He Has Gone Through “Well Over 500-600 Surgeries” Over The Last 20 Years

Flex Wheeler took some time to discuss his history of surgeries and recovery he has gone through.

Bodybuilding legend Flex Wheeler has dealt with many health issues since his competitive days ended. He has been open with fans about his struggles and opened up about his history of surgeries during a recent promotion.

Wheeler is known for an aesthetically-pleasing physique that inspired many of today’s competitors. He is considered one of the best, if not the best, bodybuilder to never win a Sandow Trophy. Wheeler has many other victories on his resume, including being a four-time Arnold Classic champion.

Flex Wheeler Reveals Number Of Surgeries

Since his career ended, Wheeler has dealt with many injuries. In 2003, Wheeler underwent nine surgeries that almost cost him his life. In 2019, he suffered a medical complication and this led to having his right leg amputated. Wheeler has taken many different medications as well and reveals that they have not worked.

“I’ve had over 200 surgeries just within the last few years. Probably well over 500 or 600 surgeries in the last 20 years. I can’t tell you the different opiates I’ve taken, everything from fentanyl, you name it. They’ve never worked.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a huge fan of Flex Wheeler over the years. The bodybuilding legend gifted Wheeler the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2023 Arnold Classic.

Recently, Wheeler shared that his kidneys were failing. He has shared many updates on his current situation, including how opiates make it worse.

“I’m also a kidney transplant patient so it makes me very, very toxic when I take these opiates. It causes me to hallucinate. Nothing helps, but it makes my pain more bearable.”

Flex Wheeler is a legendary bodybuilder who has made a name for himself on and off the stage. His great work since retiring has helped the sport grow further. He continues to provide updates on his health on social media where fans can keep up with one of their favorites competitors of all-time.
