Jay Cutler Compares Bodybuilding Legacies, Eras Of Arnold Schwarzenegger & Ronnie Coleman

Arnold Ronnie Coleman

Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler discussed the careers of two other greats, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman.

Jay Cutler enjoyed a successful career on stage. If there is one competitor that he developed a friendly rivalry with, it would be Ronnie Coleman.During a recent interview, Cutler admitted that Coleman’s physique remains untouched while comparing his legacy to that of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Coleman was at the top of bodybuilding from 1998-2005, winning eight consecutive Olympia titles. This included victories over Cutler. In 2006, Cutler was able to end Coleman’s reign and begin his own stretch of winning four titles in five years.

Even though Coleman has not competed in over a decade, Cutler believes that his physique is still in a league of its own.

“To be honest, I mean since Coleman stepped away, I don’t know if anyone has even come close to his physique,” Cutler said.

Cutler joined the Don’t Be Sour podcast to discuss many aspects of bodybuilding. During the interview, he was able to dive into history involving some of the biggest names of all-time.

Jay Cutler Discusses Legacies of Ronnie Coleman and Arnold Schwarzenegger

Arnold Schwarzenegger is widely regarded as the best bodybuilder of all-time. This is a combination of his seven Olympia titles and what he did for the sport when he burst onto the scene. Of course, Schwarzenegger did this without social media to grow his own brand.

“Arnold has done definitely was more on a total scale, I mean to be an actor, the politician, yeah, put the Olympia on the map, like that’s why you could really do this circular pattern of what a GOAT is. It just depends on your description of what the greatest of all time is.”

When it comes to physique as a whole, Cutler believes that Ronnie Coleman still has one of the best ever, if not the best.

“By the physique and you know, the transition of time, just Ronnie pushed the physique level to just the crazy conditioning, muscle density quality right? Where, you know, he was like a powerlifter and a bodybuilder together. He broke all weight records and had a crazy physique.”

One Era vs. The Other

Jay Cutler continued to discuss some of the changes in bodybuilding overtime. This ranges from training beliefs to diet plans. From the time Arnold Schwarzenegger hit the stage to now, the sport has enhanced in a big way.

“Definitely the enhancements changed, but the nutrition changed a lot. The equipment that we train on was way different.

I think Arnold overtrained himself a lot, they would spend all day working out and not following a nutrition pattern that would fulfill that. Now, as you know, the rest and the growth is done out of the gym. I think their perception was most of the growth was done inside the gym.”

The conversation regarding the best bodybuilder of all-time usually features the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman. For multiple reasons, you can’t go wrong with either decision.
