Lee Labrada Shares Tips On Weightlifting

The most important thought in the gym, according to Lee Labrada, is understanding your limitations. This includes knowing where the end range of motion is when performing certain lifts.

The end range of motion is where your muscle is fully contracted.

“Usually, that means that you’re all the way at the bottom or you’re all the way at the top or lock-out position of an exercise. These are the points where the muscle tendon and the joint itself can be most vulnerable to injury.”

“We want to talk about what you should not do, which is bouncing at the end ranges. This bounce, for example, bouncing the bar off your chest during a bench press can cause a dramatic increase in stress at precisely the point of vulnerability. This is the kind of thing that can lead to a pec tear and that is exactly what you want to avoid.”

Labrada continued to discuss a safer way to lift weights to protect yourself from harmful injuries.

“A safer method for performing an exercise, and one that can actually increase growth-producing intensity, is to avoid the extreme end ranges all together, which keeps more constant tension on the muscle. So shy away from bouncing at the bottom of the movement or locking out at the top.”

Lee Labrada continues to help others reach their goals in the gym. Recently, he has shared many videos explaining the correct way to do certain things and this talk included how to avoid injury.
