Nick Walker opened up about missing the 2023 Olympia and his plans for next year.

Nick Walker missed the 2023 Olympia with a hamstring injury. He was present during the weekend to watch the show and sat down for a quick interview regarding his future and the injury itself. Walker will focus on preparing for the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest and hopes to receive a special invitation to compete.

Walker quickly rose to the top of the Men’s Open division in a relatively short amount of time. In 2021, he was crowned champion of the Arnold Classic before hitting the Olympia. He has two top-five finishes in each of the last two years and was a hopeful for this year as well. Unfortunately, Walker suffered an injury that kept him out of the competition.

During the 2023 Olympia Weekend, Muscular Development caught up with Walker for an interview about his future and injury. Walker shared that he will not compete at the 2024 Arnold Classic as he prepares for the Olympia.

“I’m not doing that. I don’t need it. I already have an Arnold Classic. My goal is the Olympia.

I don’t want to be arrogant but I think I deserve one [special invite], to be honest. It wasn’t like I dropped out, right? This is something I couldn’t control. This is beyond my control and I like to think I bring a lot of excitement to the shows as well. With how good this prep was and with how everything was going, I personally think my competitors are very lucky I’m not doing it this year.”

Nick Walker Talks Hamstring Tear

Nick Walker announced last week that he would miss the 2023 Olympia but recently went into greater detail about the state of his injury.

“It was last Tuesday when I actually felt it. I wasn’t even training legs. I was training chest and I kind of remember just standing up and I felt a tinge. I didn’t think nothing of it. I just thought it was ‘oh, a little jolt or something.’

Wednesday morning, I had my wife Maria just rub it out and as she was rubbing it, it was one of the most painful things in the world…Thursday, I sent pictures to Matt and it just really got worse and it was blurring all the lines and we went to train on Thursday, did shoulders and after that workout specifically, I just couldn’t walk.”

Nick Walker continued to talk about the extent of his injury and shared that it would not require surgery.

“No, it’s not going to need surgery. It just needs rest. I had this happen in 2018. I tore my hamstring. I already know this like the inside of my hand.

I just think this one is more severe. For one, I was less body fat right now when this happened, which is why it looked as bad as it does. Two, when this side happened, I didn’t touch it. I let it be.”

Nick Walker continues to be one of the biggest names in bodybuilding and will work to return to the biggest show of the year in 2024.
