Niall Darwen stuns bodybuilding world, wins Classic Physique Olympia!
Niall Darwen pulled off a massive upset at the 2026 Classic Physique Olympia, stunning a loaded field to capture his first Olympia championship.
Darwen entered the weekend as a dangerous contender after placing fifth at the 2025 Olympia, but few expected him to leapfrog reigning champion Ramon Dino and two-time runner-up Mike Sommerfeld.
Darwen began turning heads during prejudging when he repeatedly found himself in the center of the action, and he completed the breakthrough by winning the title over Sommerfeld.
Dino’s title defense ended with a surprising third-place finish, while Wesley Vissers and Terrence Ruffin rounded out the top five.

Niall Darwen Wins the 2026 Classic Physique Olympia
Darwen began turning heads during prejudging when he repeatedly found himself in the center of the action. The final callout featured Darwen alongside Mike Sommerfeld, Ramon Dino, Terrence Ruffin, and Wesley Vissers, giving the judges an opportunity to compare the eventual top five directly.
Darwen ultimately completed the breakthrough by defeating Sommerfeld for the championship. Sommerfeld once again found himself just one position away from the Olympia title, while Dino’s title defense ended with a surprising third-place finish.
The victory represents a remarkable progression for Darwen at the Olympia. After finishing 11th in 2024 and fifth in 2025, Darwen made another significant jump in 2026 to become the new Classic Physique Olympia champion. His rise also included a major victory at the 2026 Pittsburgh Pro, adding further momentum heading into the biggest show of his career.

Ramon Dino Finishes Third in Classic Physique Olympia Title Defense
For Ramon Dino, the result marked a dramatic change from his historic 2025 campaign. Dino became the first Brazilian athlete to win the Classic Physique Olympia in 2025, defeating Sommerfeld in a tightly contested battle for the title.
The victory came after several years of establishing himself as one of the division’s elite competitors, including his 2023 Arnold Classic victory and multiple Olympia appearances near the top of the standings.
Dino returned to Las Vegas as the reigning champion but was unable to repeat his performance from a year earlier. After being featured prominently during prejudging, he ultimately settled for third place.
Mike Sommerfeld Takes Second at the 2026 Olympia
Mike Sommerfeld once again demonstrated why he remains one of the most consistent competitors in the division. The German standout entered the 2026 Olympia having finished second at the previous two Olympia contests, first behind Chris Bumstead in 2024 and then behind Dino in 2025.
Sommerfeld also experienced an unusual setback earlier in the 2026 season when he missed the Classic Physique weight limit at the Arnold Classic and was unable to compete. He rebounded by winning the 2026 Arnold Classic UK, defeating Wesley Vissers and putting himself back into the Olympia title conversation.
Sommerfeld carried that momentum into Las Vegas and ultimately finished second, adding another Olympia runner-up finish to his growing resume.
Wesley Vissers Finishes Fourth at the Classic Physique Olympia
Wesley Vissers entered the Olympia after another strong year in the division. The Dutch standout won the 2026 Arnold Classic in Columbus, earning his second Arnold Classic championship after previously winning the event in 2024.
Vissers also battled Sommerfeld at the Arnold Classic UK later in the season, finishing second behind the German competitor. At the Olympia, Vissers remained firmly among the division’s elite, ultimately securing fourth place.
Terrence Ruffin Rounds Out the 2026 Classic Physique Olympia Top Five
Rounding out the top five was Terrence Ruffin, another established name who has remained a fixture near the top of the Classic Physique division.
Ruffin finished third at the 2025 Olympia, placing behind Dino and Sommerfeld, and returned to Las Vegas looking to move even higher in the standings.
Instead, Ruffin finished fifth, but his presence in the final top five further illustrated the depth of the 2026 Classic Physique Olympia lineup.
Niall Darwen’s Rise to the Top of Classic Physique
In the end, however, the night belonged to Darwen.
The former fifth-place Olympia finisher has now completed one of the division’s most impressive recent rises, going from 11th in 2024, to fifth in 2025, to first in 2026.
Darwen’s victory also means the Classic Physique Olympia title has changed hands again following the retirement of seven-time champion Chris Bumstead. Dino captured the vacant title in 2025, but Darwen has now emerged as the latest athlete to reach the top of the division.
