Dennis James expects Chris Bumstead to hang it up if he wins his sixth title.
Chris Bumstead is preparing for yet another Olympia competition. The reigning five-time Classic Physique champ knows better than anyone how to prepare to win a title and this could lead to his best package yet. Dennis James believes we will see the best Bumstead ever this year.
There have been talks of Bumstead retiring from competition for years now. If he can win title No. 6, James believes this will be the final one.
“I think this year, we’re going to see the best Chris Bumstead we’ve ever seen on any stage and I also believe that this will be his last one. That’s it.”

The Classic Physique continues to add talent each year. It is an extremely top-heavy division and Breon Ansley remains in the mix for 2024. He announced in April that this would be his final year in Classic Physique and wants to challenge Bumstead for the title.
Can Breon Ansley Defeat Chris Bumstead?
Dennis James went onto discuss the upcoming Olympia competition. The Classic Physique division will feature Ansley competing in his last in the division before moving on. The question is, can he regain his title from Bumstead?
“Can Breon beat Chris? I would say no. That’s it. I know he’s done it but that was years ago. Chris, that’s five or six years ago. People evolve. Look at Breon’s age and look at Chris. You think he’s going to get worse in his 20s? He’s going to get better.”
This was not the case last year when Bumstead won in 2023 but it is expected to change.
“He was not as good in 2023 but he was good enough to win.”

Ansley earned his Pro Card in 2013 and quickly rose to the top of Classic Physique, winning his first Olympia at the 2017 Olympia. Ansley continued to improve as he won both the 2018 Arnold Classic and the 2018 Olympia.
It will be an interesting battle come October but Bumstead is believed to be on another level once again.
“I think just on a different level. I’m not saying in muscularity, I’m not saying, I know Breon has a lot of shots where I like Breon better than Chris overall but if you look at the structure, I think Chris Bumstead is the guy. I don’t think anyone is going to beat him.”
