“I’m going to come and we are going to put in some work this week and get a chance to see what I’m about.”
I’m going to make the commitment. He’s going to make the commitment and even when I’m home, I’m going to stay in contact and get some stuff on video with him.”
Lunsford’s journey to the apex of bodybuilding is both remarkable and inspiring. He first captured the Olympia 212 title, then transitioned to the Men’s Open category, clinching the title on his second attempt. Significantly, he became the first athlete to secure titles in two different divisions, marking a historic moment in the competition’s legacy.
Lunsford will now look to get back on track in Columbus after a third-place finish at the Olympia.

The plan came together quickly as Cormier reached out to Derek Lunsford to see if they could get together in January.
“I was just checking in on him to see if we were going to do something in January.
He said ‘hey, I know it’s kind of quick but can you come in two days?’ I was just like ‘yeah, let’s do it.'”

Cormier continued to discuss what he believes Lunsford must make improvements on and it began with his legs.
“What I’ve seen today, some parts of his legs are not even fully developed but it can get there quickly if he just stays on track to what he’s going to do and I’m pretty sure he’s going to do that.”
Cormier vows that Lunsford’s quad development will improve and add more balance moving forward.
“The quads and everything is going to be much more developed. I don’t think there’s going to be an issue and as you get ready for a show, keeping them staying balanced, keeping the body in balance, nothing is really going to overshadow too much.”
