Hafthor Bjornsson is preparing for his next competition by reaching new levels!

Hafthor Bjornsson is fully back into Strongman mode and preparing for the 2024 Strongest Man on Earth competition, which is the headliner for the Shaw Classic. The official list of events has been shared for the competition and Thor is hard at work to reach new levels in training. This includes a new Atlas stone PR of 260kg (573lb).

“This would be a huge confidence booster for me going into the Shaw Classic. If I’m able to load this one, one rep, I’ll be very comfortable with me being able to lift the 270kg stone.”

Bjornsson has suffered a number of injuries throughout his career. His pec tear in particular had really thrown off his trajectory in the past few years. Having to scrap plans for a venture into powerlifting, Bjornsson once again shifted his attention to strongman after venturing into the boxing ring.

Hafthor Bjornsson Sets New Atlas Stone PR

In a video shared on July 25, Hafthor Bjornsson hit the gym with the intention of reaching a new level using Atlas stones. He warmed up with lighter stones before increasing weight in attempts to hit his new record:

  • Second Stone: 153kg (337lb)
  • Third Stone: 170kg (375lb)
  • Fourth Stone: 205kg (452lb)
  • Fifth Stone: 220kg (485lb)
  • Sixth Stone: 260kg (573lb)

Hafthor Bjornsson has studied the events list and believes that he can win the event before Atlas stones. This would allow him to go last, which would be positive.

“Winning the event means you’re going last in the next event. That means I would go last in the stones, which is a huge, huge benefit for me.”

After setting his new PR in the gym, Bjornsson went to train on Fingal’s Fingers, which is a new addition to his gym. He went out to the parking lot and completed two reps before hitting power stairs. He started with 240kg (530lb).

Bjornsson ended the video by sharing his future plans ahead of the competition. He might attempt to lift a 280kg stone but does not feel the need.

“I might do 280 once before competition but I have to see how my body feels. I might. I don’t think I have to with the rest, usually I show up in competition much stronger than in training.”
