The latest episode of Kai Greene Effect covered a wide range of bodybuilding and strength sports topics, with pro bodybuilder and host Kai Greene discussing such topics as Hafthor Björnsson competing at the Enhanced Games, the viral exchange between Derek Lunsford and Andrew Jacked, and why modern bodybuilders seem hesitant to engage in trash talk.

Here’s an quick overview of the topics discussed in this week’s episode:

  • Kai Greene reacts to Hafthor Bjornsson and the first ever Enhanced Games
  • Derek Lunsford vs Andrew Jacked – trash talk or entertainment?
  • Kai’s best contest prep and how the pressure of sponsors affects the process
  • What is Kai’s favorite ice cream flavor?

Thor Wins Enhanced Games But Fails 515kg Deadlift Attempt

Kai Greene admitted he was excited to see Hafthor Bjornsson compete at the Enhanced Games. However, despite the hype surrounding the event, Bjornsson failed to break the 515kg deadlift world record.

According to Kai and Vlad, very few records were actually broken during the competition. One world record performance remains under review, but overall the event did not produce the historic performances many fans expected.

That led Vlad to ask an important question: if the Enhanced Games cannot consistently produce world records without drug testing, what is the point of the event?

Kai joked that maybe it was proof everyone should stay natural.

Still, the discussion became more serious when Vlad pointed out this was the first event of its kind. The organizers may not yet have attracted the level of athletes capable of routinely breaking records.

Kai agreed and explained that many professional athletes spend their entire careers being warned against PED use. Even athletes who secretly use PEDs often hide it carefully. Joining an openly untested competition could risk an athlete’s reputation and career. Because of that, Kai believes many elite athletes may hesitate to participate.

Kai also shared doubts about the long-term future of the Enhanced Games. While he acknowledged he could be wrong, he said the competition may end up being a short-term trend rather than a lasting sports institution.

At the same time, Kai emphasized the value Hafthor brought simply by participating. Even without a world record, Bjornsson’s popularity gave the event legitimacy and helped attract attention.

Derek Lunsford Tells Andrew Jacked “You’ll Never Win an Olympia”

Another major topic was the viral moment where Derek Lunsford told Andrew Jacked, “You’ll never win an Olympia.”

Kai Greene immediately dismissed the idea that the exchange was serious drama. According to Kai, anyone familiar with Derek knows the comments were made in good fun.

Kai explained that Derek likely believes he is the best because that confidence is necessary to remain a champion. But he also believes Derek understood the entertainment value of the moment since both athletes knew they were being filmed.

Kai said he enjoys seeing competitors bring personality and excitement into bodybuilding during the season.

To make his point, Kai referenced an old promotional video involving Lee Haney and Mike Christian. In the clip, Christian playfully trash talked Haney, and Haney responded despite being known as one of the nicest Olympia champions in history.

Kai sees the Derek and Andrew moment in the same way: harmless entertainment designed to build fan interest.

Why Modern Bodybuilders Avoid Trash Talk

Vlad also brought up Kai Greene’s famous rivalry with Phil Heath. Their rivalry became legendary partly because both men were willing to verbally challenge each other publicly. Today, however, most bodybuilders avoid that kind of behavior.

Kai believes social media is a major reason why. Everything athletes say is permanently recorded online, clipped, reposted, and analyzed endlessly by fans. That pressure makes many competitors hesitant to speak boldly.

Kai also said authentic trash talk requires confidence and mental toughness. Publicly declaring yourself better than everyone else is risky because eventually those words are tested on stage.

According to Kai, trash talk cannot be forced. It has to match the athlete’s personality.

Vlad noted that many promoters wish bodybuilders would create more rivalries because it builds excitement between contests.

Kai agreed but stressed there is “a right way to do it.” Trash talk should stay within an athlete’s character and avoid becoming genuinely disrespectful.

That is why Kai believes fans should not expect someone like Derek Lunsford, who he described as religious and respectful, to suddenly become overly aggressive toward competitors.

Kai Greene on Contest Prep Pressure

During a lightning round, Kai was asked which contest prep felt like his best. Kai said most bodybuilders probably give the same answer: every prep feels amazing until you step on stage.

According to Kai, competitors often feel confident until they stand next to the best athletes in the world under stage lighting. That is when flaws suddenly become obvious. He described the realization as a terrible feeling.

Kai also reflected on the financial pressure attached to bodybuilding success. At one point in his career, sponsorship income depended heavily on where he placed in contests. If Kai did not finish high enough, he could lose money beyond just prize earnings.

Kai noted how contracts stipulated that he would get penalized and paid less the lower he placed. So while he was confident that he could always place second or higher – the reality was that there was more than his pride and competitive nature at stake. His literal income (beyond prize money) would also be directly effected.

That pressure changed how he viewed contest prep and competition entirely.

Kai Greene’s Ice Cream Addiction Story

One of the funniest moments came when Kai discussed his former ice cream addiction. He jokingly called ice cream “the mistress that he could not turn loose.”

Kai recalled competing against a highly conditioned bodybuilder named McCloud during his early years. At the time, Kai was heavily into dirty bulking and eating massive amounts of ice cream.

After one contest, Kai saw McCloud eating a tiny spoonful of ice cream and thought it looked ridiculous. Kai admitted that if he started eating ice cream, he would lose control and finish an entire gallon.

McCloud interrupted him and said, “That’s exactly why you’ll never have conditioning like me.”

Kai said the moment completely changed his perspective on discipline and nutrition.

As for his favorite flavor, Kai revealed it was Vanilla Swiss Almond.

Wrap Up

Overall, this episode of Kai Greene Effect gave fans a mix of bodybuilding insight, humor, and honest reflection. Whether discussing the future of the Enhanced Games, modern trash talk, or lessons learned from competition, Kai Greene continues to bring personality and perspective to the bodybuilding world.
