Victor Martinez Reveals the Secret World of Swingers in Bodybuilding

There are plenty of strange stories in bodybuilding. From bizarre fan encounters to over-the-top gym moments, competitors who spend decades in the sport usually collect a few unbelievable experiences along the way. But during a recent episode of the Generation Iron Podcast, bodybuilding legend Victor Martinez may have delivered one of the wildest answers yet: The secret world of swingers?!

When asked by a fan about the weirdest thing he’s experienced as a bodybuilding competitor, Martinez didn’t hesitate for long before revealing a surprising answer:

Victor Martinez Opens Up On Unexpected Attention In Bodybuilding

Martinez explained that bodybuilding’s combination of extreme physiques, confidence, and nightlife culture occasionally led to some very unexpected situations over the years. According to Victor, there were moments where couples approached bodybuilders with intentions that went far beyond simply asking for a photo or workout advice.

“The weirdest is probably swingers… ‘hey man my wife really loves you a lot.’ Yea I love her too. ‘Naw man, she really really loves you.”’

The moment instantly became one of the funniest and most unexpected stories from the episode, especially because Martinez delivered it with the calm, matter-of-fact style longtime fans know him for.

The Strange Side Of Bodybuilding Fame

While bodybuilding fans often focus on training, diet, and competition prep, stories like this are a reminder that pro competitors live a very unusual lifestyle once they reach celebrity status in the fitness world.

For decades, elite bodybuilders have built massive followings through expos, guest posings, club appearances, and social media fame. That level of visibility can sometimes lead to bizarre fan interactions, and Victor Martinez clearly has seen plenty after spending years at the top of the sport.

Martinez remains one of the most respected names of his era. The Dominican-born bodybuilder famously won the 2007 Arnold Classic and finished runner-up at the 2007 Mr. Olympia during one of bodybuilding’s most competitive periods.

The Evolution Of Bodybuilding Fame In The Internet Era

Victor Martinez’s story also highlights a larger reality about modern bodybuilding culture: physiques have become marketable far beyond the competition stage. For decades, bodybuilders have occupied a strange space between athlete, celebrity, and sex symbol. The extreme dedication required to sculpt a world-class physique naturally attracts admiration, attention, and sometimes controversial opportunities that blur the line between fitness and entertainment.

In recent years, that crossover has become even more visible through platforms like OnlyFans and subscription-based content services. A growing number of fitness influencers have turned to exclusive content platforms as a way to monetize their physiques outside of contest winnings and sponsorships.

While some fans criticize this shift, others argue it’s simply the modern evolution of bodybuilding celebrity culture. Long before social media existed, pro bodybuilders were already appearing at nightclub events, bachelor parties, expos, and private appearances where the line between fitness fame and adult entertainment often became blurred.

Perhaps the most famous example of this crossover is bodybuilding legend Kai Greene. Before becoming one of the most recognizable physiques in bodybuilding history and a multi-time Mr. Olympia runner-up, Greene famously worked as a male stripper early in his career. Greene has openly discussed how those experiences helped him survive financially while chasing the dream of becoming a professional bodybuilder.

Stories like Martinez’s reveal that bodybuilding has always existed at the intersection of discipline, spectacle, and fantasy. The physiques themselves are larger than life, and the culture surrounding them often becomes equally surreal. Whether it’s swingers approaching pro athletes at clubs, bodybuilders monetizing their fame online, or future legends beginning their journeys in unexpected industries, bodybuilding continues to produce stories unlike any other sport in the world.
