Rubiel Mosquera claims he did not bring his best after being sick for a week leading up to Dubai.
Rubiel Mosquera has been one of the blossoming stars in Men’s Open and was looking to prove this at the 2024 Dubai Pro. Neckzilla spoke after the show and claims he did not bring his best to the stage after pushing through an illness just before the show – causing him to retain much more water weight.
UPDATE 7/30/24: This news story initially reported that Rubiel “Neckzilla” Mosquera was forced by his sponsors to compete despite being sick. It seems that a mistranslation of the source video created a misunderstand of Mosquera’s statements. This article has been updated accordingly.
Mosquera took the same route as many bodybuilders nowadays, including Krizo. He began in the IFBB Elite Pro League and eventually made the move to NPC. He quickly earned his Pro Card and took the stage right away in Men’s Open.

Neckzilla took the stage during the 2023 EVLS Prague Pro and put on a show. He earned his Pro Card just days earlier at the EVLS Prague Pro Amateur. Shortly after, Mosquera took the stage against some of the best in the world in Men’s Open. Neckzilla finished with the bronze medal behind Samson Dauda and Michal Krizo. Despite not winning the event, Mosquera stole the show with his insane size and potential.
Rubiel Mosquera Claims He Was Sick Before The 2024 Dubai Pro
Rubiel Mosquera took the stage in Dubai against a loaded lineup in Men’s Open. He finished fourth in the division. Behrooz Tabani was crowned champion followed by William Bonac and Nathan De Asha.
The fourth place finish was a bit of a let down after much hype placed him as the potential next coming of Ronnie Coleman. Though it should be noted that a fourth place finish in this kind of line-up, for a bodybuilder essentially in his rookie season, is still a great accomplishment.
Neckzilla went on Instagram live following the event to discuss his performance. This is where he shared that he had been sick for a week and was on medication. This might have played a part in Mosquera’s physique on stage retaining water.

There is a lot of hype around Mosquera, including that coming from his coach Chris Cormier. He has yet to qualify for the 2024 Olympia and this is the ultimate goal. He has drawn incredible comparisons to some of the all-time greats, led by Ronnie Coleman, because of his insane mass.
Rubiel Mosquera did not reveal his next show but it will be interesting to see how he improves from here. At full strength, Neckzilla has one of the freakiest physiques in bodybuilding and has the potential to compete against the best in the world.
