“I had an umbilical hernia. A very small one, but everything went alright. One step back, two steps forward.”
Vissers pulled off an upset, defeating Ramon Dino at the 2024 Arnold Classic, which was considered a major upset at the time, but fell down the scorecard at the Olympia. He returned to Columbus this year to defend his title but finished fifth.
In March, Vissers took part in the Detroit Pro, finishing as the runner-up to Matthew Greggo. This is when he decided to take a break from competition to build the best possible physique for 2026.

Wesley Vissers Underwent Hernia Surgery
Vissers shared a video discussing his experience following surgery. He spoke the day after the operation and explained how Steve Weinberger first brought up the hernia in April.
“I visited Steve Weinberger back in April in New York. I was posing for him, and one of the first things he said was, ‘do you have a hernia?’ I had no idea. Does it distract from my physique? And he was like ‘maybe a little bit.'”
Standing tall at 6’2” and weighing from 216 lbs to 234 lbs, the physique that Vissers has crafted has earned him a lot of respect and popularity in the bodybuilding world. This year, we saw Vissers take a step back in competition and he is now working to fix any issues and build the best possible physique for 2026, which is when he will begin to compete once again.
Vissers ended by explaining how he will lose some size during this rest period but believes it will be all for the best.
“The competition phase will be next year. I had a full year basically trying to prepare to be the best possible version I can be…I’m going to lsoe a little bit of fullness through these rest days. My carbs will be lower. No training, but that is all way worth it to be truly recovered and improved without a hernia there anymore.”
